We eventually got our trip sorted to Amritsar from Delhi after the flight was cancelled on the day we’d originally booked. The tour operator accommodated us but we did have to rejig a few other plans. It was worth the hassle because our guide Ajeet was superb and made our day completely memorable. We crammed in so much and even the time at the Golden Temple ( we visited it twice in the day and evening ) was amazing as we went effectively ‘behind the scenes’ in the food hall and met everyone making and preparing the food. Ajeet our guide gave us so much information that really gave depth to everything we saw and experienced. The border ceremony was like nothing I’d ever seen before. It was a cross between a Pride parade and a local football derby played by the military. Hilarious and certainly has to be seen to be believed. Books and tv don’t do it justice. Ajeet really knew his stuff and his English was of a very high standard. He was an impressive historian and his religious , political and cultural knowledge was outstanding and he always communicated in an understated and humble way. We left Amritsar having become wiser and more knowledgable , reflective of ourselves and others , experienced a feast for our senses having seen some of the most spectacular sights we’d ever seen. Most importantly though above all that , we made a friend…….thanks Ajeet. See you again one day. Definitely worth a trip to Amritsar….
