As a Kona resident and one who scuba dives the West Coast of Hawaii very frequently, I was on the sub to entertain a mainland visitor and my expectations were not high. But I really enjoyed the ride! The bluefin travallys and giant trevallys came right up to the sub portholes. And we did see a white tip shark sinuously entering the Naked Lady shipwreck. Cynic that I am, I had a suspicion that the shark on the sand off the bow of the first wreck was a prop…. A fake. But that white tip was very alive. The guide did a nice job on the wreck histories but made a couple boos on fish info. Chocolate dipped damsels do not chirp (the white-spotted damsels do chirp) and they are not aggressive. And it’s highly unlikely that anyone will be cut by a surgeon fish’s razor/sharp blades (at base of tail). It was clear that the guide was coming at fishes from a spear fisherman’s perspective. But no need to scare the tourists with tales of fish aggression! Snorkeling is a safe activity if one does not handle the fish. And yes, sometimes the humuhumunukunuku apu’aa can be territorially aggressive when nest guarding. THAT’s worth telling the tourists. So just give those fish some space. It was cool to see a few schools of indigo dart fish out and about, apparently accustomed to the sub going by.

One of the best experiences on the island. Incredible to view what’s underneath the waves. Learned a lot and the crew was professional, friendly and knowledgeable.

It was an absolutely wonderful and memorable experience! My wife was concerned about motion sickness, stuffy conditions, and potential humidity but all her fears were for not. The submarine was air conditioned, the ride incredibly smooth, and airflow was continuous. The crew was exceptional and added to the fun with interesting facts about the ocean ecosystem with plenty of jokes thrown in beside. Theshipwrecks were really cool, and we saw tons of fish of all sizes, and even an eel. If you are feeling at all nervous about this, don't be - you are in good and capable hands and up for a truly unique experience.

Very cool being underwater but a bit disappointing there wasn't a lot to look at (some fish but none too exotic, a couple ships that had sunk, spare tires and other junk on the ocean floor) and the non-stop talking by the tour guide (with so little substance about what we were seeing) interfered with the experience, plus the trying-to-be-cute musical selections (Baby Shark? Jailhouse Rock, which I still don't get?) were just annoying. I was hesitant to write/post this but the experience could be so much better with less talking and a good script with interesting information about the ocean and the fish and the sub (where was it built, how does it work), especially for $160 per person.

It was a very exciting trip. We went down 107 feet to the bottom of Kailua Bay. We saw a white tip shark, yellow tangs, butterfly fish, and lots of other reef fish among the two shipwrecks. The crew was very nice.

I would highly recommend this to families with young children or older people! We saw so many different fish, coral and shipwrecks. The guide and crew were super helpful and so much information that you couldn’t get just snorkeling on your own.

This was fun. My 7 year old loved it! Our tour guide was knowledgeable and funny. We got to see a sea turtle and shark, lots of fish species, sea urchins, coral, and shipwrecks. We would do this again!
