Auckland’s Wild West Coast Tour, this small group, fully-guided day trip combines the best the west coast of Auckland has to offer. Done jointly with our Auckland Highlights Tour makes the ultimate Auckland experience. Led by our famously passionate tour guides, notorious for bringing your journey to life by sharing their stories and rich background knowledge, and run in modern, comfortable minibuses packed with extras ensuring your comfort and safety.

Itinerary:

1. Auckland Sky Tower – Departing from the famous landmark of the Auckland Sky Tower, our west coast adventure begins with a guided tour out of the city centre over the famous Harbour Bridge to Auckland’s North Shore. We then head west towards the affluent areas of Coatesville, Kumeu & Riverhead. While on this journey our guides will point out all the main attractions and tell stories about the area along the way.

2. Hallertau Brewery - Arriving at the craft beer brewery Hallertau, you will be treated to a delicious lunch of your choice from a special set menu. Following lunch we have the opportunity to taste some of Hallertau’s winning craft beers before continuing our day.

3. Muriwai Beach - A short drive from the brewery we arrive at the wild west coast black sand beach of Muriwai. Exploring this area, you will be amazed by the rugged coastline, unique black sand and the feel of raw natural power that surrounds the area.

4. Muriwai Gannet Colony – Walking up the hill from the beach not only will you be treated to amazing views but also have the chance to see the largest mainland gannet colony in the North Island. Getting this close to these impressive ocean mastering birds is a special experience. (Bird numbers vary at different times of the year).

5. Devonport & North Head – Crossing the harbour again, we head to the charming seaside suburb of Devonport. Here, we take a scenic drive to the top of North Head, a historic volcanic cone with sweeping views of the Hauraki Gulf and city skyline. Learn about its fascinating military tunnels and coastal defence history as you explore this unique vantage point.

6. Auckland City – After a great afternoon exploring Auckland’s West Coast and North Shore, it’s time to return to the city. You can choose to take the scenic ferry ride back across the harbour from Devonport to the city, or enjoy a fully guided drive with drop-offs at central locations and hotels.

This was a half day tour, Matt was our driver and tour guide. It was great to see the beaches on both sides of Auckland. The views back to the city from Devonport were quite spectacular. In contrast the great open spaces at the black sands beaches, with the power of the waves breaking on the shore.

Enjoyed this overview of the area from the west coast to the north Auckland suburbs. The west coast of course and gannet colony is a must see but I also enjoyed our drive around the different neighborhoods and countryside while our excellent guide , Simon told us different things about the country and how people are living - both historical and contemporary.

Our guide, Simon, was great. Friendly and informative, the tour was a nice way to see the sights outside of the city. Lunch with fellow travelers was a nice touch and a cool opportunity for a bit of connection. Great tour! We got a bit of rain, but it didn’t stop us. Got some awesome photos as well.

Very intresting day. Super knowledgeable guide, Dave who had great help from another guide Sam . We had a very nice lunch at Hallertau Brewery and a great tour with many informations and good advice from Dave regarding our continious journey in NZ. We wouldn't hesitate to use Cheeky Travels again!

The guide made the tour better with his commentary and insights. It was a rainy and windy day, but the gannet colony and scenery were beautiful. Lunch was average.

I can't image a better tour to get a flavor of the Auckland area. We had lots of rain and they did a great job and we hardly noticed the rain
