See the city of Christchurch from above by taking a trip aboard the Christchurch Gondola. The cable car takes you on a scenic journey to the Port Hills crater rim and Mt Cavendish summit, giving you fabulous views of Christchurch's dramatically changed cityscape. See Canterbury Plains and Lyttelton Harbour unfold as you rise to the summit complex, on the crater rim of Christchurch's famous extinct volcano.

Please note the Christchurch Gondola is a 15 minute drive from the city centre and a ten minute drive from the port of Lyttelton.

To see even more of Christchurch, go Punting on the Avon River. If the combo package is purchased. Please book your Punting timeslot prior to arrival by contacting the supplier directly.

• Please note our attractions do get very busy sometimes, especially if a cruise ship is in port and there may be a wait time at the Gondola due to increased demand

Very enjoyable ride. CAFE at top - good food, and service. Great views , lots of walks at the top. Very busy cruise day but all moved reasonably quickly.

The Christchurch gondola experience was truly awesome! The views were spectacular! I recommend this tour for anyone wanting to take memorable photos of the mountains and the city below!
Transalpine to Arthur’s Pass and Shuttle Back to Christchurch

The train to Arthur’s Pass was great: amazing views, comfortable, decent snacks. Once at Arthur’s Pass our shuttle driver recommended a great challenging hike that led to a beautiful waterfall. It took 30 min to walk there, and 30 min to walk back, with 400 stairs. Perfect for stretching the legs. From there, we stopped at 3 scenic spots for about 5 min for photos, then magical Castle Rock for 30 min for a short hike. I would recommend this trip for all kinds of abilities. There are opportunities to get out of the van if you like, or stay in the van if you prefer. But the steps in and out may be challenging for someone with a disability. The only downside to this trip is the very long drive back to your hotel, during rush hour traffic. I had chosen this shorter Tranzalpine trip because it didn’t seem like there was much to do and see in Greymouth overnight, and trying to do and out and back to Greymouth in the same day seemed too long. But in retrospect, it probably would have taken the same amount of time considering the shuttle in traffic scenario. You just wouldn’t get to experience the hikes. Our guide was great: professional, patient, provided all sorts of snacks and water.

Nice views. Gift shopping Café at the top, but unless you want to do a big hike, not much else to see.

Staff very helpful. Some really good hikes when you at the top. Wear good hiking shoes. I did the walk out to the Canterbury Pioneer Women's Memorial. Good day out.
