  We were looking forward to the trip around the Colosseum as the highlight of our trip to Rome. We chose an early morning to to avoid the queues. The night before the tour we received an email saying that the Colosseum would not be included in the tour, only the Roman forum and Palatine Hill as the Colosseum had changed the rules and would not let tour guides in. It is hard to see what this would make the entry tickets invalid or why such a change would be made at such short notice or for tickets that had presumably already been bought and paid for. The communication explained that if we wished to go to the Colosseum, we would have to rebook the tickets individually. There was nothing we could do at that point as the office was closed. The following morning, none of the staff at the meeting point could give us any information, nor could the tour guide. Eventually someone came from the office but really gave little more information other than the tickets that we had been handed out that morning which stated they were valid for entrance to the Colosseum would not allow us entry and after the tour of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, if we wanted to go into the Colosseum, we would have to queue up for tickets. The whole point of the early morning tour was to avoid the queues! I do not want to disparage the tour guide as the element of the tour that we were given was interesting and well presented. Show Me Italy on the other hand seemed quite disinterested and appeared to think that their offer of a 30% discount for the element of the guided tour that we would not receive (to be sent automatically) and refund of the additional cost of tickets bought by ourselves for the Colosseum made everything okay. At this point, admittedly only a couple of days later, we have not yet even had an acknowledgment of our email to them asking for these refunds. A Google search suggests that last minute cancellations are not uncommon because of the way these tour operators work and I would suggest booking direct with the Colosseum to avoid disappointment.

  We added an extra family member 1 week before the tour and at the meeting point at the time of the tour, guide said she did not have a ticket for the one family member because tour operator forgot to buy the ticket and now all the tickets were sold out for that time slot. We had to leave one relative behind- was not acceptable at all. I was not even notified beforehand until we got to the meeting point. Tour operator not helpful at all, said nothing they could do about it now.

  Very disappointing experience overall. The entire process felt disorganized, misleading, and honestly sketchy from start to finish. The company we booked through did not actually conduct the tour themselves — they split everyone into different groups run by smaller third-party operators. Communication beforehand was extremely confusing, especially after the email saying Colosseum access was “not guaranteed.” When we arrived, our guide told us we had to enter the Colosseum without him and pretend we were not part of a tour group. He instructed us to split into groups of four and say we were “family” if Colosseum staff asked questions. That immediately made the situation feel unprofessional and uncomfortable. We were eventually able to get inside the Colosseum, but completely without guidance. We were simply given about 45 minutes on our own before meeting back outside. The Roman Forum and Palatine Hill portion was the biggest disappointment and honestly felt incredibly lazy. Instead of properly guiding us through the Forum, the guide only stopped at about three things total: one arch, a random symbol near a staircase, and then the top of Palatine Hill where he mostly just pointed at the Forum from far away while talking endlessly. We barely walked through the Roman Forum itself, and there was very little actual explanation of the ruins around us. It felt like the minimum possible effort was being put into the tour. To make things stranger, the guide repeatedly inserted odd personal commentary about how great the Middle East was and how lazy the Romans were, which felt unnecessary, unrelated to the tour, and uncomfortable. Overall, the experience felt chaotic, low-effort, and nowhere near what was advertised. I would absolutely not recommend this company.

  Sights were fascinating but was told the day before the schedule time of 9:30 was moved to 10:30…..hence more crowds and much hotter. When we got there we were told we could not go to the coliseum (they said they sent an email the day before; we found it later in spam). They are reimbursing us for that amount but it was too late to get tickets on our own (we were departing the next day). Our tour guide was okay. His voice was monotone and he repeated the information a lot. It was great to see but wonder if it would have been better and cheaper on our own.

  Theresa was a knowledgeable guide. While I have taken tours like this one, she added knowledge snd fscts that i was not aware of. Under difficult raining conditions she kept us safe and we still was able to see everything. The only negative, not her fault, was she was not allowed to take us into the Colosseum for the guided tour. Something about a rule change that did not allow her to go in with us.

  The signage to find where to go was terrible. No one walking aroundwith signs or calling out to people. It was so disorganized it wasn't funny. Started tour late as a result. Tour guide was fine and tour went well. Unfortunately we were left to fend for ourselves in the colleseum as we were notified the day before that there was a change in policy and tour guides weren't allowed in. This wasn't true as there were tons of guided tours. Very disappointed in this tour and feel we should get a partial refund

• Disappointing Tour, Tickets Pulled 1 Day Prior

  Tickets to access the Coliseum were announced as unavailable the day prior to the tour, with a small reimbursement offered, which was extremely disappointing & frustrating given the short notice. The tour guide was somewhat somber & did not communicate well, assuming the group would keep up with her. There were many features I could hear other tour guides pointing out that ours did not.

  Our tour operator sent us a late notification they were not allowed to lead a group that day into the Colesiem. Said no tour guides could lead groups, which was false there were many many groups with their flags inside the venue. We booked the deluxe tour where they take you to tge floor. Instead we had no guide, no audio and on our own to wait in long lines and crowds.

  Rich was our tour guide and I CANNOT say enough great things about him and this tour! Regardless, what you may see about “guides not being allowed into the Colosseum….etc” Rich and the company made our experience second to NONE! I will absolutely use them again and request Rich (from Pittsburgh but lived/studied in Rome for 20+ years). A MUST
