This is a 12 hour tour to watch a train cross a viaduct for 5 minutes (which is not guaranteed). I’ll tell you how it gets all the good reviews in a minute. When I read “Glencoe, Fort William guided tour”, I assumed we would be stopping in these places and a guide of some sort would be showing us around. Not so. The guide is your driver and doesn’t even stop at these places. When it says “pass by”, it means the sight is off in the distance through the trees and you can’t even see it (castles). When it says “time allows”, this means quickly drive past without even slowing down (locks). You will have 1 toilet stop at a gift shop, one very quick roadside stop to take a mountain photo, then arrive to the viaduct parking area. We were instructed that the train passes by at 1:20 and we are to be back on the bus at 1:30. Given this information, one would assume it’s a 5 minute walk to view the train. You would be wrong. 10 minutes barely gets you past the second car park. Suffice it to say that I didn’t dare walk to the really good train viewing area for fear I would be left behind if the bus departed at 1:30 But the worst is yet to come. The lunch stop is at the base of a mountain gondola. The cafeteria where we were instructed to eat was out of lunch items when I arrived. I will attach photos of the empty serving line. And we arrived to lunch at 2:35 PM. When the driver learned that some of us weren’t able to eat, he said we’d be stopping again later where we could get something to eat. Since our later stop at that location with a pay toilet left me with less than 25 minutes, I could only grab something from the convenience store. Shortly after the train, the driver pulls into a parking lot supposedly for us to take photos. It’s not a location to take any good photos and there is no toilet. The driver then walks through the bus with a bar code to scan and asks us to write a review right then and there. Thankfully I refused because we didn’t have that disasterous non-lunch stop yet. The driver/guide was actually really great and did his best to make things fun. It is not his fault that this tour is falsely advertised. Even though I am a train enthusiast, I would never recommend this tour to anyone. Literally a 12 hour day for 5 minutes of a small train in the distance.

Morag did a great job explaining the history and encouraged me to appreciate the beauty of the highlands. She’s also very knowledgeable about films and cracked a few good jokes.

GHormis glennfinnan long, the too long journey for stopovers without much interest (and not even for local cows!)

Jonathan was a fantastic guide-very funny and informative. The scenery on this tour is lovely (and you get a quick glance at the Kelpies as well).
