Essential Flamenco
We want to recover the intimacy, which was the essence of authentic flamenco. The audience literally stuck to the stage, surrounded by three rows of chairs. No tables, no meals, no distractions. Pure flamenco. The flamenco jondo (jondo comes from deep, deep) combines, in a crucible never seen before, five musical cultures: the local Andalusian folklore, the music that brought the gypsies (that emigrated from India arrived to the south of Spain in the year 1400 ), Arabic music (the Arabs were from the year 700), and also musical features of the Jews and Castilians. It is a music that touches the universal soul.

5.00This venue is an intimate downstairs brick cave where you are mere feet away from the performance and feel like you’re part of it. The singing and dancing were beautiful and powerful. The introduction taught us about the history of the dance and the performers brought the history to life. Must see!

5.00My wife and I visited Spain for the first time on our recent trip to Madrid. We booked an evening at Essential Flamenco and we are so glad we did. It was an incredible experience that we will not forget. The dancers, the musicians and the singers were just incredible. The room is very intimate and only seats around 30 people so there is not a bad seat in the house. We would definitely recommend!

2.00The performers were talented, but overall I was disappointed compared to similar performances I’ve attended in other cities and venues, especially considering the price. The male performer seemed to make up nearly half of the show, while the female performer, although very good, had less stage time than expected. There was also a long instrumental section with less dancing overall. Only having two dancers was unusual compared to other productions I’ve seen. The costumes were also not what I expected from this style of performance. Do your research before booking, unfortunately, I did not. I relied too heavily on TripAdvisor reviews from previous years. 😞
