  • Disappointing: Approach this tour with caution

We were very disappointed with this day-long tour of Tangier we took on Monday April 14, 2025. The experience did not match the description or the information we received in advance. Please be cautious when considering this tour. To be fair, there were a couple of positives — most notably our FRS guide, who met us in Tarifa at the ferry and was incredibly helpful, especially when navigating passport control and helping us get around. Her assistance was invaluable. However, the overall experience fell far short of expectations. We were told this would be a private tour for just the two of us. In reality, three other travelers joined the group. While they were lovely people, it was not what we had been promised repeatedly (I contacted the Viator twice to inquire and was assured there would be no others joining the tour). We were also told we’d have four hours of free time to explore and enjoy lunch at our own pace. That never happened. Instead, we were guided around for hours by our guide, Ali, who seemed to take us only to select shops — likely ones where he receives commissions. We had no opportunity to browse or shop freely. When one of us tried to make a purchase at a shop not suggested by Ali, he actively discouraged it. Lunch was another letdown. We were led upstairs at a restaurant and simply told this was where we’d be eating — no discussion, no options. According to the tour description: "After visiting the Plaza de los Cañones you will have free time (four hours). From this square, you can quickly walk to the Souk and the Medina if you want to shop and have lunch." That free time never materialized. While the price was reasonable, the experience did not deliver what was promised. In the end, we left feeling misled and disappointed. Approach this tour with caution.

  • Tangeir tour

The tour started off pretty good with shuttle through the “modern” Tangeir. However after a 10 minute drive in the shuttle we were dropped off and walked for the remainder of the tour, which was not an issue but during the walk we were led to “old town Tangeir”. Once guided through parts of old town Main Street (if you will) we were toured through corridors that smelled of cat urine and on to the food market where flies could be seen all over the food. The fish market (in my opinion was disgusting) where we walked through areas with fish water in flip flops and nice clothing. You knew the fish/seafood had been cleaned and washed away or should I say rinsed. This tour was far too long being walked through these corridors and should be spent touring more of the city rather than the market area. You really do get what you pay for so unless you are ok with this kind of tour I would recommend spending a bit more money and getting to see more of the city rather than the market. That being said it was a harsh reality to how others live. We did see some amazing sites along the way ( after the market) even if it was quick view. Would I do it again? Absolutely but I would find a different tour to take. Perhaps the hop on hop off bus would have been more suited to our group.
