  We had an unforgettable tour in Pompeii booked through Viator, thanks to our amazing guides Marco and Mario. Marco led us in the minivan, keeping the ride fun with his humor and great local tips—his pizza and gelato recommendations were spot on! Everything ran perfectly on time, and we felt completely safe and cared for from start to finish. Marco, a trained archaeologist, was also our guide through the ruins. His detailed and passionate explanations brought Pompeii to life. He skillfully walked us through the tragic events of Vesuvius, the excavations, and the fascinating layers of prehistoric, Greek, and Roman history. From the baths to the markets and everyday life of ancient Pompeii, his storytelling made the past feel vivid and real. Highly recommend this tour!

  Getting picked up from our cruise port was easy and well organized. The tour guide in Pompeii was very good and was used to navigating through the groups so our experience didn’t feel like we were just being herded like sheep as others seemed to be. He was also very knowledgeable on the history as expected.

• Tough start to a great tour

  The visit to Pompeii was fascinating, and the tour was excellent. However, we had great difficulty meeting the tour at the cruise terminal. All of the guides waiting outside the security gates at the ship had signs with surnames on them and the name of the tour. Not seeing our tour or surname, we rechecked the meeting instructions which said to meet the tour "outside Cruise terminal by the security gates." So we caught the shuttle to the main cruise terminal, and again, there were no tour operators with our tour or name listed. We asked several other guides and no one could help us. Finally, a guide with the same company called their office and located our tour guide at yet another meeting point. It took us nearly an hour to finally get to the right group, and several other people had the same issue. The tour company needs to improve their coordination and communication regarding meeting points. Eventually it was all sorted out, but this was a poor beginning of what turned out to be a great tour.

  Pompeii is an amazing place. We had a great time exploring with our guide Ines. She was knowledgable and led us on a walking tour showing all aspects of what it was like to live in Pompeii. Pickup from the cruise port was a little confusing but Carmela was in contact with me the entire time and it all worked out.
