• Better the plane than risking your life

  I give it two stars just because the staff was nice. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. The boat was traveling at an excessive speed, causing constant abnormal jolts and bumps (painful for the back) against the waves throughout the journey. The boat is small to face the ocean: an endless hour and a half in which it seemed it could capsize at any moment. On board there were those who screamed, those who cried and even those who had a panic attack... a sign that the risk was real and perceived by everyone. I highly recommend choosing companies with much larger boats (although even those do not guarantee a really quiet trip, let alone these boats of 30–50 seats). With the sea you can’t mess around: for the Lombok–Bali route, it’s much better to fly. In 40 minutes, you're safely down.

  I put two stars and not 0 just because the cabin crew were very kind but the boat trip from Gili T to Bali was the worst experience of my life. The sea was very rough so maybe in general it was not advisable to leave but anyway the boat was definitely too small to face such a journey. We chose this company and paid 40 euros each because we had read it was reliable but unfortunately we were very disappointed. The boats of the other companies were much bigger than the one they let us on. Moreover, we left an hour and a half late because, according to the staff, the boat had had an engine problem in the morning that needed to be repaired. To catch up the delay the boat did not stop at Gili Air and Bangsal as originally planned but went straight and very fast (too much, in my opinion) to Padang Bai (Central Bali). I do not recommend this experience to everyone. I confirm that at the beginning of the trip they offer natural water, nausea pill, mint candy, a bag for possible vomiting and safety instructions (picture card and life jacket clearly visible for each passenger); it is also true that the seats are comfortable and the boat relatively clean but these details are completely irrelevant when you happen to find the sea as rough as we found it and realize that you are on a completely unsuitable and unstable boat that swings like a leaf between waves, with water coming through the windows and people understandably screaming in fear.

  We had booked the Gili T to Bali ferry online, but were informed at check-in that due to weather conditions, all ships to Bali had been suspended. Initially it was a shock, especially since we had a return flight the next day, but the company was very active in looking for alternative solutions. We were offered a private boat and a driver to reach a larger ferry that could travel safely. In addition, they offered us the option to cancel the trip with full refund. Despite the inconvenience and the longer lead times, we appreciated the responsible handling of the situation and the helpfulness of the staff in finding a safe and effective alternative.

• A nightmare that could’ve been prevented

  Our trip with Blue Water Express from Gili Air to Serragan didn't go as planned. The Harbor master shut down the Fast Boats on the day we were heading back to Bali from Gili Air. When we checked in that morning, the guy knew the harbor master had shut down the boat but didn’t tell us and the rest of the passengers. They put us on a small boat to lombok, then proceeded to tell us that they can’t take the fast boat to Bali. We had two options: cancel with them for a refund and figure out on our own to get back to Bali. Or let them put us on the slow ferry. Had he told us that at check in, we would’ve stayed another night in Gili Air and not be stranded in Lombok! I felt bad for people who had international flights that same day in Denpasar. Anxious to get back to Bali, we chose the slow ferry. It was a nightmare that put a sour note in our amazing trip. From Bangsal port in Lombok, we were directed to a warung and waited there for two hours, then we were crammed onto a bus for a 2hr bus ride to a port where the slow ferry heads to Bali, then waited another 2 hrs for the ferry to depart for a 5 hour to Bali and another 1.5 hour trip to our hotel from Badang Pai. Don’t even get me started on how gross the bathroom and the ferry was. All in all, the journey took 14hr when it should’ve been 4hr. Having said all that, I do want to recognize the team at Blue Water Express in Lombok that was left to help us (about 25 passengers) through the ordeal noted above. You have to remember, we were not the only passengers that were trying to make this trip back to Bali. There were over 100 other people in our situation from other companies, but I believe we got the A-team when it came to damage control. We were all pretty pissed about the situation at first, we were all frustrated and tired and focused on how this was screwing up our vacations. And the Blue Water Team didn’t let it get to them. They kept calm, they kept focused and they got us through all of it with care and grace. The Blue Water Express team on the ground helped organize a bus, organize the ferry and had rides for all of us on the other end in Bali at midnight. They were even thoughtful enough to bring dinner to the Ferry for the 25 or so passengers in our group. None of the other fast boat groups got any of that other than the bus to the port from what I could tell. They certainly didn't get dinner or have rides waiting for them on the other side. Crap happens, and how we recover makes all the difference. Blue Water made that difference and for that, I’m grateful.

• Good ferry very bad port taxi situation

  First the boat ride was amazing. Well organised, well operated, excellent safety, couldn't want more from it. However once we arrived at port in Serangan to get in our pre booked grab (Uber) it became clear the locals/Bluewater run a cartel for taxis out of the town. We were approved by several men at once, asked forcefully what we were doing and who was our taxi driver. When we got to our taxi these men had an aggressive argument with our driver trying to force him to leave us for them. Thankfully our driver eventually ignored them and we left in our taxi. We were then followed out of town and threatening hand gestures made towards the driver. Basically it all felt unsafe, and this from a country which relies on tourism is not a good look. The local cartel/Bluewater want the taxi money but are not willing, it would appear, to join grab (Uber) world because they don't get to set crazy high prices. Instead they resorted to aggression and intimidation. Sad end to a good trip.

• Terrible experience - Bluewater’s ushers chased my driver out of town and video taped my party

  My friend and I were traveling from Gili T to Serengan and booked a ticket without a car transfer to Uluwatu, as this was an option listed Bluewater’s website. When we arrived, we booked a Grab (like Uber) to take us to our destination, but when the Grab arrived Bluewater’s ushers told us that no Grab was allowed to pick up from their place. It was clear they were just trying to get us to use their service instead of our pre booked driver, and after already paying 45 USD/pp for the boat this was frustrating. I insisted to let the Grab pick us up a few blocks down from their office. Instead, two of their ushers CHASED our driver out of town on a motorcycle, leaving us stranded. The ushers then found us and started harassing and video taping us, telling us not to take Grab and take their taxi instead. As two young female travelers, we felt extremely unsafe and uncomfortable!!! We ended up having to walk a mile to meet our driver who looked fearful. For a company of this price, I expected MUCH more professionalism - if Grabs are not allowed, tell us upfront rather than putting two girls through this experience. Not worth the price

  How irresponsible the way they transport the Cover from Gili T to Sanur. It's 4 horrifying hours of travel. The excuse is the waves, but they have to take into account that in addition to maritime activities, they are carrying human beings, lives (there were even children on board). For the first time in my life, I thought I couldn't reach my destiny. We all fear for life. I do not recommend all this crossing, nor the lightness with which they deal with the situation, as if we had to subject ourselves to such “torturing” to which we are exposed. SHAMEFUL.

  Very efficient service and worth the higher price. The waiting areas for both journeys, from Bali to Gili T and then back a week later, were great as under cover and not crowded. We noticed crowds of people standing and waiting in the hot sun for other boats. The boats look in better condition than some of the other ferries we saw, too, so felt very safe. The pick up and drop offs to and from our hotel was without issues and driver was early from the hotel. We were also messaged a day before so were kept in the loop. Wouldn’t hesitate to book with this company again.

  Amazing service worth paying a bit extra, after going to the Gilis pre kids and seeing some of the chaos that occurs with other boats I was nervous about travelling to the Gilis with my three year old. Blue water look after you provide great customer service and run their service in such a professional way that you feel safe and relaxed. Will definitely use this service when going back to Gilis Thank you blue water team

  Timely departure despite bad weather and rough seas. Extremely negative note is that inside the motorship you could really breathe with difficulty due to the very strong smell of fuel. When asked by the staff to solve the problem, they replied that they would check once they arrived at their destination..... !After the rain we went up to the upper deck where, however, strong splashes of water arrived for the rough sea but we did not see fit to go back down inside because the guard railings are really low and we were afraid of falling. However, there are very few seats on the upper deck.
