Pingvellir National Park
Learn about some of the thrilling and somewhat gruesome history of Iceland at Thingvellir National Park. It’s significance is so great that it is a designated UNESCO world heritage site. You’ll walk the grounds where Icelandic democracy began and visit sites where Viking-era justice was carried out including the Drowning Pool and the Gallows Rock. Thingvellir is also the place where two tectonic plates are gradually separating creating a gorgeous landscape of steep cliffs and broad fields featuring Thingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland.

Would have rated higher except that tour bus left without us! We were picked up at our hotel by a "shuttle" bus, which stopped at other hotels picking up guests for various Viator tours. When we arrived at the bus station, it was to learn that our Tour bus had already departed! How could this have happened? Didn't the tour guide check off guest's names before leaving? So we lost about 20 minutes while the shuttle driver drove furiously to meet the Tour bus, which he did. Tour guide never apologized, appeared irritated that our late arrival was caused by us! Shame on Grayline!! Tour itself was OK, but sadly the beginning left a bad taste for us.

This was an amazing experience! Visited all 3 places during the day. Tour guide was fantastic and knowledgeable! All stops had great facilities. The coach did 3 drop offs on the back back to different excursions which was a little annoying but it was fine!

It is a good overview. We had a full bus and trying to hear our guide in outdoor venues was difficult due to size. Should have whisper headphones for a group that large. That said our guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. Good value for the cost.

The Grey Line bus, which was the local company that was supposed to pick us up for the tour, never showed up for this scheduled and paid tour. I called Grey Line phone number listed on the app, no one answered. I called Viator, talked to the agent there, who couldn’t do anything that time to make us change to another similar tour. We didn’t go to the tour eventually, and requested refund. This was very disappointing, and I never experienced this type of situation before. It wasted our precious time, and made us unable to do the sightseeing we dreamed about for a long time.
