Hermit Road isn't accessible by private vehicle during the summer. The tour will instruct you to park at stop 15 and walk from stops 16-22, then take the shuttle for stops 23-31. The stops after 31, on the eastern side of the park, can once again be accessed via private vehicle.
After booking, check your email/text to download the separate Audio Tour Guide App by Action while connected to WiFi or mobile data. Enter the password, download the tour, & enjoy it offline. Follow the audio instructions and route from the designated starting point.

How To Access: After booking, you’ll get an email and text with setup instructions and password (search “audio tour” in emails and texts). • Download the separate tour app by Action • Enter the password sent by email and text. • MUST download the tour while in strong wifi/cellular. • Works offline after download.
How to start touring: Open Action’s separate audio tour guide app once onsite. • If there is just one tour, launch it. • If multiple tour versions exist, launch the one with your planned starting point and direction.
Go to the starting point No one will meet you at the start. This tour is self-guided Enter the first story’s point and the audio will begin automatically Follow the audio cues to the next story, which will also play automatically. Enjoy hands-free exploring. If you face audio issues, contact support. Stick to the tour route & speed limit for the best experience.
Some areas of the Grand Canyon South Rim tour are only accessible by shuttle—bring headphones for detailed audio instructions.
For road closures and park entrance fees, please refer to the official park website. To avoid large crowds and enjoy the best views, visit during off-peak hours, ideally early morning or late afternoon.
Audio Setup: Connect your phone to your car's stereo system using Bluetooth, USB, or AUX. For the best experience, consider using headphones for walking tours. Audio playback is compatible with Apple CarPlay, with navigation features coming soon. Support for Android Auto is also on the way.
The tour requires a supported mobile device for navigation. Please use an iPhone with iOS 15 or later, an Android device with Android 9 or later, or an iPad/tablet with GPS and cellular service.

You’ll need to take the park shuttle to access an area that is not open to private vehicles. We recommend bringing headphones so you can continue listening to the tour while riding the shuttle.

4.00The Grand Canyon is so expensive with such stunning views that it helps to have an audio guide to enhance the experience and provide suggested routes. I had reached some must see views in advance but this was helpful. It was easy to use once you got the hang of the map vs list, to select where to start as needed.

3.00I thought the tour was well conceived in terms of content and stops. However, many of the stops required decent walking distances so the expected time to complete was way off. 4 hours did not cut it for curious people. 6 hours is more like it. We had to skip stops. The other suggestions is too add more history narratives to the tour. But overall we enjoyed it and was especially good value for the price.

4.00I thought this was a great experience, except we all wished there was guidance of the next step, like when we were getting on the shuttle as we didn’t take our stuff from the car that we needed like a sweatshirt and water to be gone for over 2 hours..

5.00Definitely worth it. This was my second time at the Grand Canyon but I went on my own with no agenda the first time. This time I opted to get the audio tour and it made a difference. It was easy to use and directed me to areas that I didn’t stop at before.

5.00I really enjoyed this self-driving and walking tour! It gives historical background and information that is not included on the historical markers that are posted along the canyon. If you choose to take a break and continue later, it's easy to do that. For the price, it is definitely worth it, especially if you are doing the canyon on a budget! I have been to the Grand Canyon 4 times, and this was my first visit in the winter. I definitely recommend going at this time because crowds are small, the prices to stay in the park are much cheaper, and the other visitors are primarily from around the world. It was really great!

3.00This can be a confusing app. This could have told us when we should walk from one spot to another, and when to take a shuttle bus. We spent way too much time by the hotels listening to the app; we finally went on the Hermits Nest route, where we saw more spectacular views of the Grand Canyon. The app could have suggested choosing more spectacular views, like Pima Point, instead of bogging time near hotels when the views were pretty much the same.
