Himeji Castle
The castle was registered as world heritage in 1993. The castle is known for its specific architecture. The construction of the castle would represent sophistication of their defence system and political power. This was the tallest castle in Japan which meant that this castle represented once the highest power and sophistication of military power in the samurai period. In 1346 Akamatsusadanori started to construct the castle during the civilisation war in Japan many other people took over the castle after that. During the time of under different ownership the castle changed its shape but the Castle we can see today was the same shape as 1909. End of samurai rule in Japan, the owner of the castle gave the castle to the new-formed government. After that the government decided to use the castle as educational and historical display purpose. Because of that reason, the castle is now open to the public.
Engyo-ji Temple
Mt. Shosya Ropeway to access Engyo-ji temple will be suspended due to the annual maintenance from February 5, 2026 to March 18, 2026. Engyo-ji is Tendai sect temple on the top of the mount Shosha. The mountain is located the north side of the city. This is a very authentic temple which is constructed in 970. It has a resemblance of the very famous temple in Kyoto, which also constructed on the side of the mountain. The wooden construction of the main building and dining hall were registered as one of Japanese culture heritage. Also, it was one of the filming locations of Tom Cruise’s Last Samurai.

Yama was tremendous as our guide. He knows so much about the city and the castle. There were a lot of little things he told us in and outside of the castle. He also took us to a beautiful out of the way shrine. When we had spur of the moment requests, he accommodated us. Overall we had a wonderful tour.

The experience was a 5. Our guide, Hiromi Mizoi, made the experience great. We did a morning tour and then settled into Kobe for the afternoon for a meal. I think that’s a great way to spend the day.

We enjoyed our tour of Himeji with our wonderful guide, Yama. We began the tour with a spectacular view of Himeji Castle from the top of the Egret Himeji building. We then had an in-depth tour of the castle and Koko-en Gardens. We finished off the day by having an authentic late lunch with culinary suggestions and support from Yama. I highly recommend this tour and guide.

We had a great time with Yama as we toured the area. We selected Himeji Caslte, Koko-en garden and the Sake tasting. Yama had great communication from start to finish, coordinating a seamless meet up upon arrival. From there we walked to the castle and started our tour. Yama was very personable and friendly, and gave us much insight into the locations we selected. He guided us effortlessly throughout the whole day. He was quite funny as well. I'd definitely do more tours with Yama if we had the opportunity and anyone would be well treated with him. 10/10

Absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Hiromi Mizoi was our guide and did an excellent job communicating before the tour on what to expect. We were able to visit Himeji Castle, some of Kokoen Garden, and Engyo-ji Temple during our time. She was organized and kind. Hiro did a great job leading our group of 7 around via public transport. We had a fantastic day and wouldn't hesitate to use company again.

Communication beforehand was amazing. Easy to meet guide at station. Hiro did an amazing job leading us all day despite the rain. We saw all 3 sights we wanted to and had time for a quick bite at lunch. Everything was clearly laid out before and during the tour (costs, itinerary, timing, etc.) We enjoyed seeing the castle, part of the gardens, and the Engyo-ji Temple. We learned a lot and it was so much easier having someone show us the way. Hiro was so kind.

We had a 6 hour private Tour through Himeji. We met our tour guide Mrs. Hiromi Mizoi at the train station. First stop was a local artisanal sake brewery. She explained us all the steps to make a good sake, then we had a very nice sake tasting. Then we visited the White Castle. A wonderful experience. I learned a lot about Japanese wood buildings and history. Our last stop was the big temple area. We went up by cable car and had a nice walk and learned a lot. I really liked the quiet atmosphere. In late evening she brought us to train station and we got our connection perfectly on time. I can really recommend the company and especially our tour guide Mrs. Hiromi Mizoi! 素晴らしい一日をありがとうございました!

My husband and I had a wonderful private tour of Himeji with Hiromi Mizoi (Hiro). She was friendly, professional, and made us feel welcome from the start, waiting for us at the JR Himeji Station right on time. Hiromi guided us through the main sights, including the impressive Himeji Castle, while sharing fascinating historical insights and local stories. Her knowledge and passion truly brought the experience to life. We were also lucky to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom, which made the tour even more special. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan, and we highly recommend Hiromi to anyone visiting Himeji.

It was our pleasure to have Yama-san as our guide to visite Himeji Castle, Koko-en, Mt. Shosha and Engyo-ji Temple. Yama-san is very knowledgeable and has a great sens of humour. We learn a lot more with him, than doing the visite alone. We highly recommend him!
