Gua Niah

On display are the skull of a young Homo Sapien, some tools made out of stone, bone and iron, and cave drawings. Anthropologists established that the Niahan lived in the Caves from 40000 BC right up to 1400 AD. As more than half the park is covered with limestone, limestone vegetation is the most common variety of plant life. In Miri so it has to be done. Reasonable price includes a good meal at the end. Driver / guide very good. Helped spot some wild life on the way and in the caves. I’m mid fifties and over weight but the walk around 10km is do able also in the caves as well as it’s a good walkway with a little needed shop just before the entrance. It’s hot and on the way there I was wetter than an otters pocket through sweat but not out of breath. The heavens opened on the way back making me wetter than a mermaids flannel but it was kind of refreshing in the heat. Great knowledgable guide, amazing views and photo ops. Interesting how they harvest the nests, which is insane and pointless to me. Recommended.

Alan (our guide) picked us up and drove us to Niah and really took care of us. He made the hike (and it is a hike) through the jungle to the caves and through the darkness with cave crickets, bats and other creepy crawlies to the Painted Caves. Definitely worth the drive and trek and my friends said it was the highlight of their holiday. Late lunch was tasty Chinese food

We went in with a guide, and I’m so glad we did as he was incredibly informative, especially about the plants and animals along the way. I’m fascinated by reptiles and insects, and he made sure we stopped at every opportunity so I could take pictures (and have my little geek-out moments!). The walk from the jetty to the Painted Cave was very easy and scenic. However, some may find the stairs and inclines a bit challenging. Nothing extreme, but worth noting if you’re not used to uneven terrain. Overall, an unforgettable experience. Gua Niah is breathtaking, and going with a guide really added depth to the entire trip.

Booked and paid for the tour but the operator cancelled two days before and could not reschedule until next year! Why offer a tour if you will not operate it if numbers are low.

Allan was an excellent guide very knowledgeable and patient, pointing out interesting plants/ snake/ ant nests on the trees and insecst on the way through the jungle. Unfortunately we were unable to reach the painted cave as I am a slow walker, but thugh disappointed with that as that was the reason I chose this tour, The caves we saw (Trader's, Great & Moon, which was so bright that I thought there were lights!) were amazing & I was happy enough with the day. And very tired after the long walk!

Alain was a fantastic guide: immenslely knowledgable, pointing out interesting plants etc, on the way, answering all questions (always aware that someone wanted to ask), and patient. Unfortunately we didn’t make it to the painted cave as I walk slowly, but I tried and was happy with the tour. I would recommend both it & more especially Alain, despite the long hike (I have an arthritic knee on one side and an unstable ankle on the other, so it was a bit difficult for me!)

A good outing, nice walk under the canopy of natural forest cover. Wild flora and running stream, good ambience, as we walk up to the caves. Huge and majestic caves and eye opener to see how birdnests are harvested. A good experience walking in the dark on stairs with torch light. Best to engage a guide for better graps of the historical and present livelihoods of the peopke depending on the caves and ssfe moving around in tge caves.

One of the best day trips I’ve ever been on. The site is not only beautiful, it’s steeped in history and very interesting. Traveling through the caves gives you a glimpse into how people lived there years ago. Allen, the guide was amazing. He did an excellent job explaining everything. Bring a flashlight.
