This was an outstanding day but a very long day at close to 13 hours and some 600km. The scenery was absolutely stunning along the way. The Jacobite steam train experience was fun and nostalgic, but it is warm with very little airflow (as the windows don’t open) and you don’t really see the viaduct all that well while on the train. The best views of the viaduct were from the stop at Glenfinnan before the train. Our guide Louise was simply outstanding. She kept us entertained and informed throughout the journey with history, stories and local lore. One of the best tour guides we have ever been with. This is a day worth doing and a wonderful way to see the highlands. Highly recommend.

We all had a good time. Our guide, Louise, is professional, personable and friendly. The tour itinerary is exactly as outlined on the Viator site.

Our driver Tim was the only reason we did not give this trip a 1 star. They did not use the original steam engine, it was extremely hot during the whole ride, the only window that was open was by the connection area between cars, we were not notified of any important landmarks to watch for and the trolleys only came through one time but they came through too fast to see what was offered. This was one of the big reasons we came to Scotland. Paid too much for this. Not worth the price.

Everything about this tour was great- except the steam train- the actual reason I booked this tour. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and was so excited about this. Our seats on the train were on the left hand side which has a wonderful view of trees and walls. In order to see almost anything you need to have seats on the right side of the train. And to make it even better our windows had big seat stickers in the middle of them which further complicated our views. In order to get photos I had to stand up and lean over people to use their window to take a photo. It was a really disappointing experience for me. Tom our tour guide was amazing and all the other things we did in the tour were beautiful and worth it. I could have booked a cheaper option to see the train cross the viaduct and avoided the disappointment on my train experience. But if you can guarantee a seat in the right side of the train it’s probably worth it.
