The views on this tour are fantastic. I would say that this is not an “ice cave” and the name is somewhat misleading. It’s a pocket. Very small, so much so that the staff recommends you go in two people at a time. It’s also very dark inside and could use more lighting. If you don’t do well with off-road, bumpy terrain, this isn’t the tour for you. My husband and I thought it was a bit overpriced, but the stops before the actual cave were incredible!

We had a great time in the tour. The ice cave was a bit smaller than what I expected, but we didn’t know how dynamic the glacier was. You could only go in about 20 feet or so. Our guide was telling us how it has morphed and changed so much within the past year. The drive to get to the glacier is a little bumpy so if someone in your party has motion sickness, they may want to take something for that. Our guide, Max, was wonderful and knowledgeable.

Our guide was super friendly playing local Icelandic tunes while we drove to the ice cave and gave a history of the area. When we got to the site, we were properly prepped and there was a co-worker on the glacier working diligently to make the ice safe and walkable for us. Our guide also escorted us into and out of the caves. (Friends went on a different tour where that wasn't the case.) Our guide had our safety top of mind and we all got great pictures, a fun experience and all got home safely. They even gave us some Icelandic chocolate bars are goodbye treats. This excursion is so worth and you could not visit the area safely without a guide and their equipment, including their specialty vehicles.
