• Great tour and fantastic, authentic casual dinner

  Great tour and highly recommended. Our guide was Nicola who was assisted by Emma and both were quite knowledgeable and personable. Nicola (Italian married to a Japanese) and Emma (British) have both been in Japan and Asia for a number of years and quite excited to share their knowledge. Nicola has excellent English and Emma, of course! Their Japanese abilities are impressive as well. We had a fun walk through the geisha district as it was getting dark with the lanterns gently illuminating the historical buildings. Following that walk we proceeded to a charming Izakaya (casual Japanese gastropub) for a fabulous dinner. This was a place that only the locals would know and almost no tourist would stumble upon. Great, authentic local atmosphere and really good food/drink. We would definitely do the tour again just for the dinner and sake if back in Kanazawa! Very enjoyable.

  

  

  

  

• Kanazawa Night Geisha District Tour w Dinner by Nicola

  We found Kanazawa to be beautiful and picturesque both during the day as well as at night. We met Nicola near a Buddhist Temple just across the River - which we learned later was a key location component. (As it seems that in Edo times an entertainment District had to be situated outside of the city.) He explained the significance of the temple, statuary, hanging rope, with lighting bolts, above the entrance and its positioning. We followed a curving pathway lined with silent old homes along its sides - then entered the Geisha / Geiko District. All was quiet and nearly absent of other tourists (a welcome sight compared to daytime touring of this area). There were strategic lights on, but the shops were closed since 5:00 PM. This allowed us to fully appreciate the architecture, building construction and decorative touches as Nicola pointed these out and explained their significance. Who would have thought that ground floor vertical narrow spaced wooden slats - served as “peep holes” for the Geishas to look outward towards passers by and the evening’s customers. We got many great photos and appreciated the quietness and serenity of this usually jam packed area. We made notes of sights we’d like to see in the daytime & we returned the next day. Nicola took us to a “hidden” restaurant frequented only by Japanese locals w no English menu. That was special for sure. Nicola reviewed the menu offerings and then ordered in Japanese for us - FUN ! We we served nearly 12 individual food items and had a great dinner of pork, soba, creamy miso, assorted veggies and fixings - Delightful for sure. After dinner we all walked back to the hotel and we bade Nicola Good Night / Tour well done. Highly Recommended - You’ll enjoy the evening tour of the Geisha District and Dinner for Sure ! ! ! ! !

  My husband and I had a fantastic evening with Nicola. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, the history of the geisha districts, and the nuances of Japanese tradition — we learned so much from him throughout the night. We ended the experience with a delicious traditional meal in a tucked‑away local restaurant we never would have found on our own. The whole evening felt thoughtful, authentic, and genuinely memorable. Thank you so much Nicola.

  This night tour was an unforgettable experience and the perfect way to explore a different side of Kanazawa. Siya was a fantastic guide—warm, knowledgeable, and made the entire evening feel relaxed and special. One of the highlights was dining at a quaint, tucked-away restaurant that felt incredibly private and authentic. The meal itself was such a unique experience—we were served tuna spare rib, along with rice and salad, and everything was fresh and beautifully prepared. It felt like a true local dining experience that we never would have found on our own. Siya added so much depth to the evening by sharing cultural insights and making us feel completely comfortable throughout. This tour was the perfect blend of great food, atmosphere, and local connection. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable night in Kanazawa!

  We can highly recommend this tour. We learned a lot about the geisha, got some good tips and visited hidden spots. The familiar Udon restaurant was unique, delicious and traditional. Our guide Nicolas is very sympathetic. He has a good knowledge of the past and present. We had a lot of fun. felt very comfortable

  We had a truly wonderful evening tour through the Geisha district in Kanazawa with Saya. She guided us in such a pleasant and personal way, sharing not only fascinating insights into Japanese culture but also stories from her own life, which made the experience feel especially authentic. Her English was excellent and very easy to understand, and it was a pleasure listening to her throughout the tour. The whole evening had a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, and we felt very well taken care of. The dinner she selected for us was also outstanding and perfectly complemented the experience. Overall, we had a fantastic time with her and would highly recommend this tour.

  Wonderful experience walking through the geisha districts and the local meal was a great way to try a variety of genuine Japanese food. Our tour guide, Saya, is a local from Kanazawa and was very knowledgeable and kind.
