  This company is a scam. I booked a first class ticket to Ella through them. Once I arrived at the station I was told the passport number on the ticket was incorrect. I tried to call the company on wattsapp asking for an explanation but they kept hanging on me. I was told by the railway station staff that these companies you find online are all scammers. Tickets should be purchased at the station, not through them. Eventually I had to buy another ticket.

  The train ride is great!!! And we got the tickets delivered at the property. The contact person was easily available until the time when we waited 2 hours for him to come (the evening activities had to be cancelled) and he only delivered the tickets the next day in the morning 1 hour later than prescribed. We received instead of the booked tickets for the 2. Class at 9 a.m., tickets for 1. Class at 11am - all no window seats.... The inspector explained to us that our tickets are issued on a passport in Sri Lanka and kindly he lets us go anyway - we just had to hope that other inspectors wouldn't notice and we would be thrown off the train. We were lucky and simply never book anything with Viator again.

  Bad experience. After booking first class seats for the Kandy to Ella train almost a month in advance, we were handed tickets at the hotel that turned out to be invalid: when we arrived at the station in fact the bitter discovery, tickets were not accepted because they were reserved for Sri Lankans. DA here we were forced to give up our trip as the second class tickets did not guarantee the seat.

  Purchased 2 tickets months in advance for $64 USD. Operator was no show and did not respond to multiple messages. Viator was less helpful. They informed me that even though operator did not show to provide the tickets, it non-refundable. Other passengers received their tickets electronically. This is a scam- seek a reputable distributor. Photos capture no communication with the tour operator and Viator assuming no responsibility. This was theft.

  I was VERY disappointed with this experience: it was hugely stressful and completely unsatisfactory. The tickets arrived at my hotel as arranged. However I also had messages from the local tour operator advising me to go to Peradeniya station instead of Kandy because there had been “congestion” so it would be easier to board there. I had to ask several times what time the train arrived at Peradeniya. On the morning of travel, we had difficulty getting a taxi so the hotel said it would be quicker to go to Kandy, which we did. When we arrived at the station, we were told that our tickets were not valid as the passport numbers didn’t match (I KNOW I put the correct numbers on the booking as I remember asking someone to double check them for me - as I always do) A different station official told us that the tickets were black market tickets & yet. another official told us they were tickets only for Sri Lankans. In all this mess, we found that several other parties of tourists, all of whom had bought through 3rd party agents, were in the same situation. I contacted the local tour operator to see if they could help but they told me there was nothing they could because I had not taken their advice to go to Peradeniya. As we believed we had no other option, we bought a 2nd class unreserved ticket (we asked about 1st class to be told it was sold out) & tried to board the train. 2nd class was impossibly rammed! In fact, the 1st class carriages appeared completely empty! Finally, during the various conversations with different station officials, we realised just how enormous the mark-up is that you make on this service we were not even able to use! Overall a VERY poor experience & one I shall be making further complaint about.
