The firefly is a type of insect from the beetle family. The ‘Pteroptyx tener’ species is the most dominant in Kuala Selangor, measuring about 5mm in length. At night, these tiny insects congregate on berembang trees (Sonneratia caseolaris), a type of mangrove tree that grows naturally in the brackish waters along Selangor River’s banks.

5.00Even though it was pouring at pick up time at my hotel, I am glad that I did the tour. The destination was so far out of town that it cleared. Onthe way we stopped tosee Silver leaf .o keys by the lighthouse and the 7 Sisters Temple. The water is beautiful and the boat ride exhilarating to the Island to see the fireflies. Then on to see the luminescent Blue Tears in the water. My guide waspositive, pleasant and talkative which I appreciated greatly. He also helped me take photos of myself along the way. Great time.

5.00Our driver Faizi picked us up right on time for a very enjoyable afternoon and evening. Our first stop was the stunning Hindu Temple Sri Shakti, followed by a tram ride up Melawatil Hill to see the Lighthouse and many tame monkeys being fed by the tourists. Disappointed by the amount of trash thrown on the ground by said tourists. On to the Kinaree Thai Restaurant for a delicious and abundant seafood dinner. Finally the boat ride to see the fireflies sparkle in the dark. The best part was our driver Faizi who was so knowledgeable and very entertaining.
