Our famous Lava Loop allows participants to experience and epic electric mountain biking tour boasting some of the best coastal views in New Zealand. Take in the stunning vistas over the harbour and of course the amazing opportunity to ride the crater rim makes this tour a MUST DO for any visitors to this slice of paradise. Photo opportunities are abundant and the views along this route will leave you speechless, if the climb to the top does not! A moderate level of fitness required, the terrain is mostly sealed roads. The route includes some extended periods of assent and descent which is why we use the latest model pedal assist Scott E Mountain bikes to help us along the way! Lyttleton Port Cruise Passengers. You are most welcome to join us for an incredible day out however you must contact us to arrange transport which has an additional charge .

A faultless experience and professional in every way. We were a pair of seniors whose needs were attended to in every way. Our guide Jack was delightful.
Definitely happy we did this tour in Akaroa.

This company was so easy to deal with. We came in by cruise ship and were concerned about the timing of the tour but the owners bent over backwards to accommodate us. They also held all our bags from shopping that morning in a locked office while we road. Jack was a great tour guide who was friendly and professional and focused on safety but also knew a lot about the area. Alaroa is a beautiful area and the lava loop tour provides an awesome perspective from the upper perimeter. The tour was enough to count as a workout without being too strenuous. I would note that there are some tricky areas with lots of wind or some car traffic. These were scary for me but the rest of the ride was relaxing and fun.

A very hands off DIY adventure. We met at a coffee shop off the main drag. We were sized up for helmets and bikes. We were given backpacks which were narrow in size. Luckily we could fit our travel packs inside. There is a pocket for water bottles on the outside of the backpack. Bring your own water bottles and water. There were also bike tools and extra tires in case we got a flat. Thank god that didn’t happen. There were also laminated instructions and maps of different itineraries in the backpacks. I wish the maps were more detailed with street names etc. and easier to refer to while riding (laminated cards on the handlebars for instance and some sort of electronic GPS). We had to stop periodically and pull out the instructions/maps from a full backpack which was inconvenient. Aside from that, the e-bikes were well powered with a turbo setting that made it easy going up steep hills. There was a cool loop trail on gravel roads that was just outside of town. We then rode on hilly streets in a neighborhood, saw a beautiful Māori site overlooking the harbor and had a lively lunch at winery. Overall a fun ride. If we had more time, it would have been nice to bike the crater rim.

This was an incredible, once in a lifetime experience. Grev was so experienced, friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. We would so highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in exploring Akaroa by bike. The views were spectacular from up the top of the mountain and the e-bike made riding up the steep roads manageable for those with basic to moderate fitness. Grev cared for us and stepped us through any tricky sections of the climb / decent. He really made the experience so worth it!

Such a fantastic experience! Bikes were a blast to use and made the uphill climbs super easy. Our tour guide Grivel was knowledgeable and very friendly. Can’t recommend this tour enough.
