Leeds Castle

Canterbury Cathedral
A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Canterbury Cathedral is both a serene place of holiness and beautiful tourist destination. As the Cathedral of the Archbishop, the spiritual leader of the Church of England, Canterbury holds a special place in British history. No ordinary Cathedral, Canterbury has a long history that is often described as ‘England in Stone’; from the role of its Archbishops in the Magna Carta to the murder of Thomas Becket after a power struggle with the King of England, Canterbury’s history is intertwined with that of England. Founded by St Augustine in 600 AD, the Cathedral today is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England, and the first building in the country to be redesigned in this popular style in 1774.

4.00Enjoyable trip. Cliffs of Dover spot is a little disappointing and it didn’t help that it was a rainy foggy day. All you really get to do is stop at the beach to take photos. I would have liked to go up to the castle on the cliff side. Otherwise Leslie, our guide, and Christian, our driver, were great. Knowledge and kept everything running smoothly. Great way to see a lot of stuff in one day.

5.00Beautiful Day in Kent. Enjoyed Leeds Castle and Canterbury Cathedral. We could even see France from Dover it was such a clear and sunny day. Shiela had lots of very interesting history to share both on the coach and walking through Canterbury and the Cathedral. She is an expert.

5.00Had a stellar time with Cameron as our guide and Amarjit as our driver on this tour. Cameron was so funny and shared just the right amount of information! Amarjit navigated the narrow roads and dealt with the rain and wind, I always felt safe. Leeds was fun with the character actors on grounds. Canterbury was beautiful despite the downpours, hahaha. And Dover beach stole my heart. (I love stones!) Definitely recommend tours with Evan Evans!

3.00While poor Cameron demonstrated his thespian expertise and proclaimed our tour group one of his favorites, three women who'd wandered off from the cauldron of Macbeth did their best to upstage his performance, and their constant chatter had him at his wits’ end. On top of that, our collective inability to hoot and holler when prompted elicited a review of 1 out of 10 from the same host pretending to sing our praises. Nonetheless, he was a genial and entertaining guide, and Marlon an excellent driver. Unfortunately the stops on the tour itself were less than rave-worthy. The walk through Leeds Castle, while pretty, is more about the 20th-century socialite who kept it from falling down than its long history before that, and at Canterbury we had time for the cathedral and a quick bite to eat but not much else. The less said about the 25 minutes in Dover the better. The photo provided in the advertising shows an orchestra view of the white cliffs, but we witnessed a shimmer in the far distance for about 15 seconds — and a gray smudge of castle perched beyond a ten-story hotel — then a curtain of fog closed across the scene, and we headed back on the busy road to London, where the newly erected high rises offered more spectacle.
