The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdeztwazi or “Spiral Rock Arches.” This incredible canyon has been created over many thousands of years by the relentless forces of water and wind, slowly carving and sculpting the sandstone into forms, textures, and shapes which we observe today.
The views in Lower Antelope Canyon change constantly as the sun moves across the sky, filtering lights softly across the stone walls. These ever-moving sun angles bounce light back and forth across the narrow canyon’s walls, creating a dazzling display of color, light, and shadow.

Lower Antelope Canyon
A 1 hour guided tour through Lower Antelope Canyon. Learn about the geology, history and the culture of the Navajo people that live around the canyon. Antelope canyon is famous for its wave-like structure and the light beams that shine directly down into the openings of the canyon, creating a super natural appearance. Different from the flat ground of Upper Antelope Canyon, Lower Antelope Canyon requires visitors to climb upside and down through staircases and ladders. 5.00My tour at Lower Antelope Canyon started off with strict rules—but it made sense, because everything is centered on safety. Once you descend, the experience shifts. It’s cooler, quieter, and incredibly beautiful—especially when the sun begins to rise and light filters through the canyon. The walls slowly come to life in shades of burnt yellow, orange, red, and brown, like the canyon is waking up. I’d highly recommend going early in the morning to avoid the heat. Wear good shoes too—it’s about an hour of walking through narrow spaces, with plenty of steps and uneven paths. Beyond the views, there’s so much to learn. The guides were thoughtful and informative, and every turn revealed another stunning angle worth taking in.

5.00Fabulous experience and was my teenagers’ favorite stop on our Arizona road trip. Kennedy was a great guide and even took a minute to play the flute for us inside the canyon so we could hear the beautiful sound.

5.00It was a really cool experience. Some up and down on a ladder to get down into the canyon but otherwise just a really cool visual experience. Lots of picture taking opportunities. Our guide was also really helpful with getting just the perfect pictures of us. Overall worth the drive!

Beautiful Hike through Lower Antelope Canyon

5.00The tour takes place on private land. The lower canyon has two designated tour companies, Ken and Dixie (brother and sister) we went through Ken’s Tours and our guide was Omar. He was super friendly and knowledgeable. The tour is a fully walking/hiking tour, but it’s not challenging. Our 8 year old had no trouble whatsoever. There are some steep stair cases, but as long as you take your time you’ll be fine. It is absolutely gorgeous and well worth it.
