Pancha Rathas
Make the first stop of the day at the Pancharathas, or five chariots, a series of monolithic temples built by the Pallavas. These are rock cut monolith temples structures built in the 7th century. Each of the 5 rathas or chariots are dedicated to the lead cast of the Mahabharat epic- Draupadi, Arjuna, Nakul-Sahadeva, Bhima and Yudhister. There is also a sculpture of an elephant next to the ratha of Nakul-Sahadeva. Once you stand towards the rear of the elephant you will notice that there is an uncanny resemblance between the rear of the chariot and the elephant.
Arjuna's Penance
We next visit Arjuna’s Penace, a bas-relief monument that’s considered one of India’s most magnificent pieces of ancient art, depicting vivid scenes from the Mahabharata. The relief is 100 feet long and 45 feet tall! The main story being told is how Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, performed severe austerities in order to obtain Lord Shiva's weapon.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on this tour! Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. Our guide Hareesh was outstanding – his knowledge was impressive and he explained everything clearly and with great passion. We learned so much about the history, culture, and local life thanks to him. He was also incredibly friendly, patient, and always made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. A special mention also goes to our driver, who was very professional, kind, and drove safely at all times. We felt well taken care of throughout the entire trip. Thanks to Hareesh’s expertise and the driver’s reliability, this tour became one of the highlights of our journey. We highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting the area!

Really is a private tour. Private taxi from Chennai and then you pick up your tour guide outside Mahabalipuram who shows you around. Tour guide is knowledgeable. Private aspects means you can pace it yourself. I’m sure you can find cheaper tours but the price is fair for a full day driver and tour guide for at least 3hrs

This was a great tour! The site is amazing and our guides Hareesh and Ramesh were very knowledgeable and willing to take the time to answer all our questions. They went at our pace and allowed us time for pictures and looking around. There was no rushing. Our driver was courteous and safe. The lunch was delicious and we even had an extra stop at a sweet shop. I recommend this tour if you are interested in cultural historical sites, it was fascinating!

We enjoyed going back in history and trying to understand how commercial capital of Pallavas , Mabaliouram as port came out. Some finished and unfinished ork on temples and amazing lighthouse defining buzzing port form past. Kannan as guide was fantastic and understood our inquisitiveness. I think 5 senses is doing quality job which goes better MF just clicking pictures in front of monuments for social media but knowing the history as well. Keep it up

Really enjoyed seeing the sights of Chennai and having our guide explain the history of this great city. It can sometimes be lost the vastness of that history when you are looking at the stone carvings yourself, but this was a great way to experience it.
