This private tour takes you to Mahabalipuram famous for its rock cut temples dating back to the 7th century along a lovely sea shore. This tour is available to be done in a private car or on a Royal Enfield Motorcycle!
We will spend the day exploring this World Heritage Site of Mahabalipuram which used to serve as a sea port in ancient times. The highlights include masterpieces like the Five Chariots which are rock cut monolith temples, Arjuna's Penance the giant open air rock relief, the gravity defying Krishna's butterball and the Shore temple which is the last remaining of the 7 Pagodas mentioned by Marco Polo. This package includes pick and drop, private car (or Motorcycle), lunch, and a professional guide.

Pancha Rathas
Make the first stop of the day at the Pancharathas, or five chariots, a series of monolithic temples built by the Pallavas.These are rock cut monolith temples structures built in the 7th century. Each of the 5 rathas or chariots are dedicated to the lead cast of the Mahabharat epic- Draupadi, Arjuna, Nakul-Sahadeva, Bhima and Yudhister. There is also a sculpture of an elephant next to the ratha of Nakul-Sahadeva. Once you stand towards the rear of the elephant you will notice that there is an uncanny resemblance between the rear of the chariot and the elephant.
Arjuna's Penance
We next visit Arjuna’s Penace, a bas-relief monument that’s considered one of India’s most magnificent pieces of ancient art, depicting vivid scenes from the Mahabharata. The relief is 100 feet long and 45 feet tall! The main story being told is how Arjuna, one of the Pandava brothers, performed severe austerities in order to obtain Lord Shiva's weapon.

5.00What a great tour I would never have found out all the stories and info taking myself around. The aircon car picked me up at me door and dropped be back. Was also refreshing going in the air on between sites. Got fast tracked through entry points and the guide was excellent at taking photos, really knew where to take the best photos from. Lovely and friendly, I felt really looked after. Would highly recommend this tour.

5.00We did the Mahabalipuram tour on the 28 th of December and it was another excellent tour by five senses.The tour bus was comfortable. Kannan was our tour guide and he was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and accomodated all our requests. We were travelling with children and he was so good with them. Mahabalipuram is a historic place to visit being a UNESCO world heritage site and we all enjoyed the trip. Kannan also took us to a granite and marble carving place where we got to see the sculptors and purchased some products. At the end he took us to a beautiful Jain temple, was very nice. Overall good tour and recommend Five senses tour and our tour guide Kannan.

5.00We had an excellent tour of many monuments at Mahabalipuram. Our guide Ganesh picked us up from our hotel in Chennai and give us a historical overview on the 1.5 hour drive down to Mahabalipuram. We saw many fantastic historical sites explained by Ganesh and another local guide (Gopal), and we stopped for a good dosa lunch on the way back. The entire family enjoyed the day...highly recommended!

5.00Great day at Mahabalipuram. From the hotel pickup to the additional stop along the way we pre-arranged, our guide Kannan was patient and helpful. We had a large group (9) ranging from kids to grandparent, and he was accommodating and considerate of the widely varying endurance, heat tolerance, and attention spans of the group! It can be difficult to navigate the throngs of visitors in peak tourist season, but he expertly guided us and made all of our interactions easier. A couple of us had been to Mahabalipuram before, but the fascinating explanations at the sites as well as ad hoc recommendations and history made it so much more memorable. Communication with the 5 Senses tour company before and after booking was excellent, making me confident they would be reliable and on time (which they absolutely were). Tips: Even in winter it can be quite warm, especially for kids and older people. Bring water, snacks, sun protection. Traffic is inescapable and worse later in the day - so also bring patience (and caution for those prone to car-sickness). But the van for our group was A/C'd, comfortable, and safe (seatbelts, driver). Would definitely use them again for other sites/cities!
