Joya de Ceren Archaeological Park

Joya de Cerén is a Mayan archaeological site dating to the Classic period, located in the district of San Juan Opico, municipality of La Libertad. It was abandoned around 660 AD due to the eruption of the Loma Caldera volcano. It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mesoamerica because it offers a glimpse into the daily lives of ordinary people.
