Monterrico

Our staff will pick you up at hotel. Departure is from Antigua Guatemala, we will drive for about 2:30 hours through beautiful landscape volcanoes and sugar cane fields. We will pass Monterrico town and we continue to Hawaii Beach and spend rest of the day in our Resort Hawaian Paradise. The rest of the remaining hour will be allotted for the transportation.

Nelson was amazing! Definitely stopped along the way to give us a chance to take pictures and sightsee. It’s definitely a 3 to 3.5 hour drive but that was due to construction! Once you get to the beach. It’s relaxing, the pools were great. We did go on an ATV ride down the coast on the beach. Great way to spend a full day in Monterrico!
The drive was not 2.5 hrs...

The drive was not 2.5 hrs each way—it was 4 hours in heavy traffic. Once we were at the beqch it was very relaxing, and great food. If you only have one day for Monterrico, this is the way to do it!

This was a great outing. We ended up being the only visitors on the tour which was great for us. Our guide was very hospitable and informative as we were driving to the beach. We were taken to a beach club called Johnny’s Place which also happens to be a hotel as well. They offer food, drinks, showers, beach front seating and pools with pool bars. The hotel was pretty empty, I think because it was off season. The beach itself was great! Although definitely take some cheap flip flops because the black sand is no joke and extremely hot. The water was perfect! The beach was empty except for a few employees, tour guides and maybe 2 other couples. There was less than 10 people on the beach. It was very calm and relaxing, we were offered horseback riding or atv but declined as we had already done those activities. There is nearby vendors that sell all kinds of items you might need as well if you’re missing anything. Swimwear, flip flops, hats, coverups, etc. I def recommend Monterrico, I know the popular choice is the lake but Monterrico was just like its namesake and the black sand beaches of Hawaii.

Armando was a great, knowledgeable driver/guide who made us feel right at home! We went to the beach, which we didn't realize we could reach so easily from Antigua.
