After walking through the lively shopping arcade, we visit Kofuku-ji Temple to admire its beautiful five-story pagoda and take photos. We then head to Todai-ji Temple, home to the impressive Great Buddha statue. Along the way, a local guide shares the history of the temples and fascinating insights into Japanese Buddhism.
Next, we walk up to Nigetsu-do Hall, located on the hillside of Todai-ji, where you can enjoy panoramic views over Nara. The tour continues with visits to traditional souvenir shops before heading toward Kasuga Shrine.

You do not need to cover the guide’s food and drinks. Please bring cash if you would like to purchase additional snacks or drinks.

Summer in Japan is very hot and humid, so we recommend that you bring water and wear a hat to prevent heat stroke.

Japan’s climate has become more extreme, with summer temperatures reaching up to 40°C (110°F) and winter lows dropping to -5°C (20°F). Please prepare accordingly for the tour.

Kofuku-ji Temple 5 Stories Pagoda
We will be the iconic Kofuku-ji Temple, renowned for its stunning five-story pagoda. This ornately carved pagoda was built by the Fujiwara clan in 730. Today it is an iconic historical landmark of Nara.
Todai-ji Temple
Explore Todaiji Temple Main Hall and Nandaimon. As you approach, you will be greeted by two imposing guardian statues called Kongorikishi. Beyond them is the Great Buddha, a sight that never ceases to fascinate visitors. During this tour, your local guide will share fascinating stories and interesting insights into Japanese Buddhism and the significance of historical temples!

5.00Jimmy did a great job. We had an amazing time. Learned a lot about Nara and its history and enjoyed the guided tour of the temple, the surrounding grounds and the park. Our lunch was delicious and we enjoyed the company. Jimmy also took great pictures for us. Thank you!

5.00Shin was amazing. We were 30 minutes late because we took the wrong train from Kyoto and he waited and customize the trip to our itinerary to make sure that we get back in time to the train. Nora is wonderful and you have an entirely different experience with a guide compared to self-directed. I highly recommend this. Bonus? The Guide Tuk took 7 to 10 fantastic photographs at spots we would never have found.

They were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, patient, and made everything feel easy and enjoyable. 5.00Great tour. Shin was very knowledgeable. Took us to places early in the tour where he knew there would be less people, then to the main Temple after lunch, when it was quieter in the afternoon.
