  Overnight trek and home stay experience with local Red Dao family. Just the 2 of us with our guide Maysieu. Foraging for local herbs to help with our herbal bath. Great brief before we left from Phil and the team. Hoa, Chia and Sun couldn’t have been better. Very positive feelings from spending tourist dollars to benefit locals.   Very nice experience with the locals. Very pure & real. Guide May lai was very good and the trekking with 2 children was adjusted according to what they could. They got to cook with us and we went into a hot tub. Very nice experience

  My wife and I just completed staying four days in Sa Pa town and 3 days tours with Ethos - Spirit of the Community. When planning a trip to Vietnam, we almost have Sa Pa a miss because of what sounded like a place that was too touristic for our liking. Then I stumbled across a link to Ethos on the Vietnam tourism website. It appears to be exactly what we were looking for. One of the owners, Hoa made sure we were selecting the right days trek excursions that suited our comfort levels. When we arrived in SaPa, we were provided a safety briefing and also an overview of the Black Hmong and Red Dao ethnicities who live in the area. We listened to some experienced observations and stores from Phil, the other half of the company as well as Cha and her experiences of life and school in the area. Our guides, Pang and May were respectively Hmong and Dao women who had been guiding with the company for a number of years. Both were very responsive to our needs and concerns, as well as engaging and fun to trek with. Our half day trek provided us an intro to the beautiful surroundings and the next two days involved a meal with Hmong and Dao families as well as trekking. The treks and experiences can be as long and challenging as you like. Pickup from the Ethos office or alternative location and again at the end of a trek was via a local taxi (included in our fees). All in all, Ethos made our time in Sa Pa in the province of Lau Caí both enjoyable, meaningful and memorable. I highly recommend engaging this company if you are serious about supporting the local community, supporting women who are the backbone of this company and learning more about Vietnam than just what a website or promoter / influencer will tell you to do.   Ethos is an amazing tour company if you want a truly authentic experience. From start to finish, they were professional, responsive, helpful, knowledgeable and (most importantly) ethical in the way they work with the local community so that they actually benefit from genuinely sustainable tourism. Our tour guides were fantastic, the hiking was stunning and the homestays were the real deal. I highly recommend Ethos and their work.

• Buffalo Valley Trekking Experience

  We had a great adventure, first day it was rain y and foggy, so we had some muddy trekking, but the second day was sunny and we could enjoy great views and beautiful forest trails. The hospitality of the families was amazing and our guide A was excellent, she was patience and also teach us a lot of the traditions and customs of the valley communities.   Wow what an experience! Do not hesitate, if you are thinking of booking it, do it. Worth the money for thí beautiful private tour, we had a guide to ourselves! As a Viet Kinh from overseas it was a very meaningful experience to learn about ethnic minority groups. I learned a lot! My wife and I did an overnight trek and homestay with May Linh, an absolutely brilliant, warm and funny guide from the Dao peoples who could give meaningful insight that no museum/book can. ETHOS live up to their values and even before getting there the co-owner Hoa was amazingly helpful and organised overnight trains for us from/to Hanoi and transport from Lao Cai station to/from Sa Pa. It was wonderful to be able to support a business that values education and bettering the lives of workers and the community, all guides are women and many routes are their design. • Ethos is a MUST!

  Phenomenal experience! We as a couple did an overnight trek where we went through forest, past farms, and via villages to get a taste of life at Sapa. We were greeted with lush greenery, misty mountains, and a variety of forest foods! Our guide May Linh was an absolute gem. She showed us local foods, introduced us to local Dao people (who were incredibly welcoming and hospitable), and even held my hand when I struggled with some of the muddy steps! Others at Ethos were also so welcoming - it was a joy to spend time with them at Ethos HQ! It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to be a part of such an amazing experience and to be welcomed by Dao families and Ethos.

  We stayed as a family two days with ethos near Sa Pa. The tour exceeded all our expectations. From a warm and very informative reception in the Community Center to two great days in the middle of beautiful nature to the great organization and communication. We were especially lucky with our guide Cha. She was very warm, incredibly well versed in the area and with nature and plants and was always there for us. Thank you, cha!! Also the homestay and lunches at local families were really a highlight and a real cultural asset. Rarely have we been so close to the culture and real life of a country. In summary, we would recommend a tour with Ethos to every traveler to get to know the real people and support the work of Ethos.
