History Sashiko, which translates to "little stabs" in Japanese, has a deep-rooted history dating back to the Edo period (1603-1868). Originally, it was developed as a practical method for reinforcing and insulating clothing. Over time, what began as a utilitarian craft evolved into a celebrated art form. The Workshop During this immersive workshop, you will be introduced to the fundamental techniques of Sashiko. Under the guidance of experienced instructor Jun, you'll learn how to create precise, geometric stitches on fabric. The session begins with a brief history of Sashiko, followed by a demonstration of basic stitches. The workshop is designed to be both educational and enjoyable. Takeaways By the end, you'll walk away with more than just your handmade item. You'll gain a deeper appreciation for Japanese culture and the significance of this beautiful craft. While visiting us, we welcome you to check out our little shopping corner adjacent to the workshop area. Here we offer various JunAle original goods, sewing kits, hand-dyed threads, and clothing - with discounts available for cash payments. For those coming by car, please use one of the nearby coin parking lots.

This class is a lovely introduction to the craft. The instructors, Haku and Junale, provide historical background before guiding you through your first steps of Shinko. Their English is good, making it easy to ask questions or enjoy a friendly conversation. Beyond the craft itself, you'll learn about their unique natural coloring techniques and get to explore the beautiful collective workshop space. The store is also a must-see! I attended solo, but the atmosphere was so welcoming that us three students and teachers all went to lunch together afterward (not included! :) ).

I loved this workshop so much, the team that led it was amazing as well as the ones who attended. We were given an introduction to Sashiko first: what is it? what‘s the history? after that we made our first item where our teachers guided us through the whole process. We also had a short tour in the atelier (dyeing room & showroom). They have also an amazing shop where you can buy some high quality & beautiful products. All in all, it felt like creating in an inspiring environment with your friends on a chill afternoon in Osaka🫶💯 PS: there is a photographer taking pictures during the session, which are shared afterwards with the attendees.

Enjoyed an amazing Sashiko Workshop with June in a very relaxing environment. he shared with me the basic knowledge about Sashiko and showed me different Sashiko creations. The best part of the workshop wad that he guided you through the process of making a small Sashiko creation your self using various stiches. This is a must do workshop if you would like to gain a basic knowledge of this great Japanese craft.
