Koh Madsum has recently become famous for its Island pig family, no longer is it named Koh Madsum but Pig island. A fantastic trip for families with children and travel onboard a traditional Thai longtail boat. But what makes Pig Island truly unique – are its friendly residents – wild boars! Soak up in the sun and admire the breathtaking scenery of Koh Samui on the horizon, while the boars are roaming around freely. The water is clear and calm, while the surrounding coral reef is vibrant. Pig Island is an incredible day trip. With a white sandy beach and some lush interior, including mangrove forests, there are few eco-adventures to undertake in Pig Island as well. Kayaking along the shore, you may come across some rare birds and elusive monitor lizards. You can even reach Koh Tan, the second secluded island in the vicinity, offering even more remarkable snorkeling, trekking, and wildlife exploration. Welcome to a Thai version of the Bahamas!

Pig island is one of those you feel you have to see even if it is very touristy. I’m glad we did it but my children actually enjoyed the snorkelling more than the pigs. The island is very dirty and smelly which is a shame as there is no need for such much litter. The interaction with the pigs was good though and better than I was expecting, even though there are so many people about - I wish a few less trips went at same time but all in all a good trip - the timings were good. 2 hours on the island and an hour (or less if you prefer) snorkelling was perfect. My only real disappointment was the miscommunication with the tour guide I was contacted months before by the tour company with a pick up time but I then forgot this and couldn’t locate message anywhere and all other emails reminders that were sent the days before and even on the same day including tickets confirmed a different pick up time so this meant I was not ready when the bus arrived which was really annoying as we skipped lunch and didn’t remember all our stuff. Viator need to not confirm times of local guide different and the local guide should’ve sent another reminder in the weeks or days before trip.

It wasn't the best of starts when the pickup time was changed to an hour earlier on the day, so having just sat down to breakfast we got a message that our pick up driver was here. Whizzing across the sea on the longtail boat was ok, although constant sea spray in the face prevented a relaxing view. The snorkelling was good with a variety of interesting fish. I'd especially looked forward to that part, so was s great 45 minutes. Moving onto pig island, it was nice to see and feed the pigs, although nothing much else to do there for the hour to be fair. We've done some fabulous trips whilst in Koh Samui, but in hindsight i'd book a different snorkelling based trip as that was the highlight part for me. We got back, don't know why the lady took our photo at the start on the boat as nothing received or heard since. I left a tip with the non-english speaking boat captain; but slightly disappointed he just took it from me without any acknowledgment or even a smile (very unlike anyone else). Overall, would rate as 'okay'.

This trip was amazing! Being in our own group definitely was a plus. We were able to get out to the island before it got busy, and chose when we left. The pigs seem healthy and well taken care of! There were also puppies which was a bonus. The snorkeling was fun as well, the water wasn’t super clear but you could see about four feet which was enough to see the coral and some fish. Overall I would recommend this trip.
