A ten-minute taxi ride will take you to this temple. Michelin three-star, famous for its bamboo grove. You will enjoy exploring the temple grounds, garden, and bamboo grove. You could sit down and relax while trying a cup of Matcha green tea and traditional Japanese sweets if you like (optional, with tea charge).

Sugimotodera Temple

A five-minute walk will take you to Sugimoto-dera temple. Michelin two-star. This is the hidden, and oldest temple in Kamakura, founded in mid 8th century. You will enjoy Deva Kings, the moss-covered stone steps, main hall. Good to check the Buddhist statues deep inside the main hall (in a bit of distance).

The tour was fantastic. We visited some truly hidden gems, including a temple with a stunning bamboo grove, a peaceful temple garden with few tourists, and a magnificent shrine with a unique history. If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, I highly recommend this tour. I think the tour is carefully designed to avoid typical tourist spots so that guests can fully appreciate the genuine beauty of Japan. Our guide, Yan, was very friendly and informative, and the background stories and history he shared about things like Jizo statues and local schools helped us to better understand Japanese culture.

The tour was fantastic. We walked along the quiet streets and during that time, Yasuo not only gave me clear explanations about the places we visited, but also about the history of Kamakura and Japan as a whole in a concise way. There were lots of time to ask questions, too. He was kind and very flexible, showed a lot of willingness to accommodate me. Overall, I highly recommend this guide to anyone who is interested in touring Kamakura.
