The best way to experience the city of Salvador, dive into its history, culture, religiosity, and the habits of the people of Bahia, is to combine the Upper City and Lower City tours into one Full Day tour (see also the descriptions of the Upper and Lower City tours).

One of my favorite places in the Upper City is the Pelourinho neighborhood, where besides the beauty of the monuments, squares and colonial houses, you can feel the sympathy, energy and joy of the Soteropoletanos - that's how the locals of Salvador are called - who work and live in this lively neighborhood. Maybe you'll be able to experience some action, like Capoeira dancing or a local drum band performing in the streets.

You will have the opportunity to lunch in a cozy, local restaurant and taste one of the delicious regional dishes, such as my favorite, the "moqueca", a stew of fish and or seafood prepared in the African way!

Dirk, our tour guide was very knowledgeable, thoughtful, and sensitive to our questions and interests. He coordinated the tour very smoothly and well. We appreciated the places featured in the tour. They included iconic Salvador locations as well as lesser known sites that revealed the culture and history of Salvador in personal and engaging ways. We highly recommend this tour.

Really enjoyed the full day tour with driver and guide. The guide was Belgian so spoke excellent. English. Drove around Salvador out to the beach and to peninsulas on the bay, and also did a lovely walking tour around the old town

Dirk is a very knowledgeable and friendly guide who is passionate about Salvador. We thoroughly enjoyed the day with him and really enjoyed all the places he took us to, including a local market. It was a bonus to speak our native Dutch language with him as he is multi lingual. We highly recommend this tour.

Our full day tour was packed with historical information, cultural experience, important sites visited which was made possible by our excellent guide Dirk. Ana took us through a Panasonic ride and then walking in the upper market. Excellent combination of experiences. We tasted local food - sorbet, tender coconut, acaraje. The San Francisco church, Bonfim and the cathedral are must see. Thanks Ana.
