With two pickup points in both Nagano City, this tour takes you to the 'Roof of Japan' and the fabled Snow Walls of the Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route. Situated in the dramatic alpine landscape of the Chubu Sangaku National Park, this is one of Japan’s most iconic and unique sights, accessible only in spring and early summer and via a series of different mountain transports. Led by an English-speaking guide, you will be accompanied on every leg of your journey to the 'Roof of Japan' and back down again – the perfect way to experience one of Japan’s more remote and stunning landscapes.

Please wear suitable shoes for walking through snow and cold conditions (with the possibility of temperatures below 0°C).
Please bring sunglasses as the snow in combination with sunlight can produce intense glare. We also recommend wearing snowboots or good quality walking boots, if you wish to walk on the snowfields.
This tour is not wheelchair accessible and may not be suitable for mobility-impaired travellers. Should you have any concerns about your ability to join the tour, please contact us to discuss prior to booking.
This tour does not include lunch. Food can be purchased at different mountain stations with different restaurants to choose from at the summit.
In case of extreme weather conditions, routes to the snow corridor might close. In such a case, the tour will be cancelled with full refund.
The itinerary is based on the traffic conditions being optimal. We will adjust the schedule according to traffic conditions and pace of the group on the day of the tour.
Infants (aged 0-5) are free of charge. As a result, we cannot guarantee that a seat on the tour transport will be available for infants and they may be required to sit in the lap of an adult.
Given the popularity of the Alpine Route and the need to wait for transports on busy days, we cannot guarantee the end time of the tour however it should be no later than 19:00. We ask that all guests cooperate with the instructions of the guide, including meetup times for transports, to avoid any chance of delay.

5.00The trip was well organised with ample time for us to enjoy the scenery of each location. The tour guide, Taka, was very friendly, efficient and converse well in English. We enjoyed this trip a lot. Will definitely book similar trip if I come back again.

4.00We previously did the Kurobe Alpine Route from Nagoya in Autumn, and were in Nagano this time in Spring - this was the only round-trip Nagano day tour available to see the snow walls. We booked directly with Snow Monkey Resorts. We were there in early May; it was 3 degrees at the top and the snow walls were 16m high. There was ample time at each stop, and we had time to grab a quick lunch (soba+tempura) and walk the entire length of the snow walls as well. It was a long day but I would recommend doing the day tour unless you are fine with the hassle of procuring your own transport tickets and noting the timing for all modes of transport (3 each way?). Can't remember the name of our guide but he was a middle-aged bald man. Everything was handled efficiently, but we would've preferred there to be some commentary along the way - the guide essentially only distributed tickets and told us where and what time to assemble at each stop.

5.00I was on a day trip with Teddy-san to Tateyama Ropeway. My time spent during the trip was exhilarating, moving through 3 different vehicle transports (train, funicular, and ropeway). I would recommend this trip for those who wish to experience snow. Additionally, the bus ride to Tateyama is very comfortable as Snow Monkeys has a rather luxurious van for transport. Throughout the trip, Teddy-san was very happy to share his experience and the history of Tateyama. More importantly, he ensured that everyone made it on time. Finally, I think the trip provided travellers with adequate time to freely explore the peak of the mountain and play in the snow fields. What was most memorable was the fact that a client had lost their phone. Teddy-san immediately sprang into action to help the customer retrieve the phone and make it all back in time to Nagano.

4.00It was great that the guide came with us all the way and it was a small group but I feel that he isn't as informative as other tours guides I've met. Didn't ask about our Japan experience nor provide any travel tips etc. Also the instructions says 'look for the guide wearing a SNOW MONKEY RESORTS tour tag', the guide/s did not wear such tag, arrived a little late and didn't notify the participants(although we all had to provide phone or app contact upon purchase). Our group of participants arrived at the designated meeting point looking at each other wondering if the tour was cancelled. Aside from that, the snow wall was magnificent and the view along the way was beautiful!

5.00An incredible journey via tour coach, electric bus, tramway and cable car to the Kurobe dam and the snow walls on Mt Tateyama. It was an experience standing there surrounded by the mountains and the dazzling white expanse of snow. Despite the crowds, our guides managed the group well and ensured we made it safely up and down the mountain. Definitely a trip to put on the Japan bucket list.
