Unlike a tournament at a large arena, the Shinjuku Sumo Club offers an up-close and interactive encounter with Japan’s national sport. Seating is limited to about 50 guests per show, so every visitor has a clear view and a personal connection with the wrestlers.
Your bilingual MC brings the traditions of sumo to life, making it easy for first-time visitors to understand the history, rituals, and strategies behind the matches. Guests don’t just watch—they step into the ring, try the “Sumo Challenge,” and pose for photos with real wrestlers, something not possible at official tournaments.
Located in the heart of Shinjuku, this 90-minute cultural experience blends live action, storytelling, and audience participation, making it both educational and entertaining. It’s a rare chance to see, learn, and experience sumo in a way designed for international travelers.

Had the best time here! the MC was great & funny, we learnt lots of interesting things about sumo wrestling & there lifestyle. Sumo wrestlers were entertaining, also had the opportunity to fight one of them at the end. Had a great night here would recommend!

VERY Disappointing and over-priced. I would not recommend it. We were expecting a Sumo wrestling exhibition but the show was a demonstration of wrestling moves followed by 3 super quick Sumo wrestling ‘matches’ in a tiny ring. The show started late and finished early so the whole thing took only an hour instead of the advertised 90 minutes. Also, the ‘welcome’ drink of choice was actually a bottle of water you had to pick up on the way in and, when you got inside, 4-5 college students from USA and Europe pressed you to buy beer and tiny bags of rice crackers for inflated prices. It was a total rip off and a waste of money. I expect much better of a Viator experience.

Disappointed as we thought we were going to watch a training session -this was just a pantomime - wouldn’t recommend

Great evening here with the sumo wrestlers. We were taught the terminology, given demonstrations and some audience participation if wanted. The wrestlers were great fun and very engaging. The MC was great too. The only irk that I had was “drink included” was a bottle of water. Misleading, I’d expected as a minimum, a juice. Altogether a great show, lots of humour and very engaging experience.

The drink that’s given in the inclusive price is a bottle of water. It’s a farcical show, completely staged and a tourist trap. Mildly enjoyable. Area a bit scuzzy

there is an elevator to the floor, not just the steep stairs I used. found the elevator when leaving. this was a great show, Manny the announcer gave a great explanation about the wrestlers and the history of Sumo. The 2 men we saw were obviously very good but also included humor in the show, encouraging the audience to support them. Customers were given an opportunity to try, only 6 of the volunteers were chosen but it was a lottery so no one could complain about not being chosen. We were all given a chance to have our pictures taken with the wrestlers, who were very friendly. A plus everyone was given a bottle of water when they entered.

This is a must do when visiting Tokyo. A great host introduced the rules and moves in Sumo, very ably supported by 2 Sumo wrestlers who performed each one for the audience. This was followed by a bout between the 2 wrestlers to see it all put together. All of this was professionally presented but also filled with brilliant humour. This was followed by some audience members being given the opportunity to do a round with 1 of the wrestlers; dressed in an oversized suit to give them the Sumo figure, they entered the ring and did their utmost to win, and in most cases they did. At the end of the performance, the wrestlers will pose with individual audience members for photos. A great 90 minutes of wonderful entertainment; I haven't laughed so much in years. Just go to the show, you won't regret it.

Very entertaining show, enjoyed the experience. My one gripe would be the misleading reference to “drinks” in the description of the show - we got a small bottle of water each😉 There was an option to buy cans of drink, from what looked like a limited choice, but it’s definitely not a drinks experience! Go see it - the photo opp alone is worth it👍
