The park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir.

Amazing Day. With agreat guide. Must do trip. In early to beat the crowds and the heat. Our guide specialised the tour with soem birds as we are avian freaks.

Gimhana was in contact from the day I booked to ensure I knew how to get there, which accommodations would allow me to stay, and what prices I was expected to pay. His help was much appreciated. Then on the day of the Safari we saw so many elephants, deer, bird species, and monkeys. Gimhana was a whizz at spotting the animals and knowledgeable in identifying the species and answering all our questions. It was such a unique and incredible experience.

We had an incredible experience seeing more than 30 elephants over a 4 hour tour. Best of all we saw a couple of tiny baby elephants and got so close to take amazing pictures. We even saw the baby feeding from the mum. Our guide spike great english and was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

We were picked up directly from our accommodation on time and also provided with a breakfast consisting of roti pancakes, samosas and bananas (for extra 800 rupees per person) - worth it! We saw countless elephants, in herds and individually including multiple young elephants. Our driver was very respectful of the elephants but also got us a great angle to view and observe. We saw a couple of crocodiles, many peacocks, monkeys, different breeds of birds, cows, deer, buffalos and even some tortoise too. Our driver offered great insight and answered all of our questions in detail - he was brilliant. Really enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend, only point for improvement would be to factor in another break outside of the car to stretch the legs! We only stopped once during the 7 hour tour so we were very stiff by the end.
