We had an incredible tour guide who informed us about the artwork and shared fascinating information. Even the teenagers were engaged and interested in what they had to say!

Beautiful but crowded. Defintely do the small group tour. St Peter’s was the best of the three places we visted. Beautiful outside at nighttime

Olga was very knowledgeable and she challenged us to look at everything with a different point of view. She is very passionate about the history of Rome. We could not have made it through all of the locations on our own and learned as much as we did.

For this tour, there are many things that could be improved. Our guide Maria Giovanna(?) has a slight accent, which was fine on its own without a mic, but combined with the background noise that the mic kept picking up, as well as the consistent fanning sounds directly into the mic has caused non-native speakers of English to struggle immensely with understanding the content spoken especially in a crowded, heated room. One thing that I personally am eminently disappointed with is that we skipped one of the most important artefacts in the Vatican Museum — The School of Athens. I believe this masterpiece is a key work of the High Renaissance, and that it represents the history of philosophy as well as the continuity of Platonic thought. The fact that the room containing this artwork was bypassed through a different pathway specifically opened for us without any discussion was profoundly disheartening. The explanation of the frescos in the Sistine Chapel was great, but the boards outside and the booklet given by City Wonders were already very informative, and as a quick reader myself, I read most of them passing by, with nothing of great interest added by the tour guide during the time where we delved into the works of Michelangelo together outside. While it was around 35+ degrees on average on that day, it is understandable that we have to stand outside in the simmering heat for the explanation of the frescos, as no guided tours were allowed in their church. However if what was talked about could be quickly read on the boards and in the booklet, we could have saved some time to actually go see other rooms in the Vatican Museum such as the room housing The School of Athens. Even when we reached St. Peter’s Basilica, not much was talked about in great detail, length, or depth either. We walked in through the side gate instead of the front via the Holy Door and were quickly lead through the resting places of the popes, came out from the bottom of the basilica, and had a very short tour of the interior, without the guide explaining the history behind the Holy Door even when 2025 is a jubilee year. Luckily, St. Peter’s Basilica was free, so after the tour ended at the exit of the basilica, we were able to walk through the door on our own and explored the second half of the basilica by ourselves. Overall, this tour is suitable for young children with a budding interest in Greco-Roman history and also Roman cultural beliefs. However, I would not recommend it to enthusiasts or those with even moderate knowledge of the subjects, as everything covered in the tour could essentially be summarized by a brief three-minute video and was not well worth the cost.

Our guide Cecilia was excellent, very knowledgeable and explained things well to all of us. We had a semi private tour so the group was an ideal size. Highly recommended!!!
