Recommend this tour - great experience to see the island at your own pace with the hop on / hop off buses - we had plenty of time to see what we wanted and didn’t have to wait long for the buses to get around- drivers were great - informative and friendly- we had lovely weather so saw the island in its splender.

If i could give less than 1 star I would. Don’t get me wrong the experience was great. But my -1 star goes to Viator for not clearly stating in the anywhere in description that a RETURN FERRY TICKET WAS INCLUDED in this price. So my partner and I bought seperate ferry tickets, thinking this wasn’t included and are now out of pocket more than $100 because of Viator’s UNCLEAR description. SO EVERYONE PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS INCLUDES FERRY RETURN TICKETS SO I JUST SAVED YOU $100 you’re welcome. Rather book on Get Your Guide.

Great trip. We bought the tickets that also included the ferry to and from Auckland (although the trip description was rather unclear that the ferry was included!). Crossed to the island, found the bus easily and went around the island. Commentary from the drivers was good. Certainly if you don’t have a car, the bus is a great option to seeing lots of the island. We stopped of at Tantalus vineyard for a fabulous lunch. Sadly we were pushed for time, but would have stayed on the island much longer if we didn’t have to catch a flight that evening! Buses were quite frequent and the on line tracking app made them easy to work out when the next one was arriving.

  • Don't buy these tickets...

Don't buy these tickets ahead of time without checking the weather. You can't change tickets to another day without 72 hr notice. It poured so we didn't go and just ate the fee. Viator does work hard to accommodate customers overall, however.

The day we took this excursion, they were down 2 buses, so the waits were long. The buses were hot. But our drivers were kind and patient with people, having to tell them that they had to wait for the next bus b/c they don’t allow standing. The ferry was quite crowded when we arrived, so we opted to go straight to the end to Batch Winery, which was like heaven on earth. Deciding not to hit every vineyard was the best strategy. I would recommend this trip to any first time visitor to Waiheke.
