Fantastic Cultural Experience on the North Island. Host James was excellent and very informative about cultural traditions. The warrior challenge & concert was something we will never forget and was very moving. I would put this experience down as a must do for anyone travelling to the North Island of New Zealand

We arrived by private car at the general site and were unsure where the admission occurred - we were actually at the event conference building, so some emphasis on signage arrows is suggested. We started in the very modern museum with its subdued lighting to protect rare documents. Personally I was in awe of the very large and seemingly authentic original oil portrait of Queen Victoria in her prime at just 25 years old. The tour start time cut our museum appreciation short. The guide was efficient but it was uncomfortable standing while she gave out lots of details. The colonial home on the site was nicely presented and furnished. The tour ended at the Māori style Meeting House building and after several minutes of rules lecture by a crew member we were admitted sans shoes into the ‘performance’. The performers were lacking finesse and at times the singing was cringeworthy to listen to. EVERY little action had the performer verbally tell the audience to applaud. Appalling. I’ve seen primary school performances more engaging than this one. All the features were there, costume, artefacts, theatre set/decor but it missed the mark in my opinion. I was staggered to be told that they performed multiple times a day for over 2 years, and still couldn’t make it work as a performance. The evening concert was billed to be a very different performance —- nope much the same … a waste of time. The hangi was very generous meat and vegetable quantities but the lamb and pork could not be cut with the knife provided. Tough, tough meat. The method of cooking for a hangi is to achieve TENDER meat slow cooking. NOPE not this meal. Would not recommend the combo. Just get the admission and enjoy the scenery and museums.

Learnt a lot about the significance of the treaty to the NZ people. Really enjoyed the tour of the beautiful surroundings and walk through the centre where key players and events leading up to the declaration of the treaty, We saw 2 performances of the cultural display enjoyed both, before the hungi. Tour leaders and staff were all friendly and accommodating. We would recommend anyone with an interest in learning about the history and Māori culture of NZ to experience this top class activity.

The Treaty Grounds are great to visit. All the history is very interesting to learn and the exhibits are excellently presented. The show and meal were excellent and we got the opportunity to talk to the performers afterwards. All in all a great day.

It was amazing to see the performance, the grounds, the musea. The hangi was really delicious! The staff were so friendly and accomodating. The story told is impressive and heartwrenching at the same time. It is so good to have this a living testament of all the hardships the Maori went through. We had a special day at the Treaty grounds.

A professionally well organised flow of cultural discovery, Followed by a large tasty meal. A great evening for all. Our introduction was conducted by welcoming hosts for our evening of Maori cultural discovery. Interactive role plays by volunteers allowed all members of the group to step back in time. This was followed by a wonderful display of tradition song and dance.

A great way to experience Waitangi and Māori culture. More in-depth than just the admission, and the hāngī food was delicious!
