We visited Werribee Open Range on a very wet day, not expecting much. We took the Safari Tour with Earl. He is a fountain of knowledge, sharing lots of great info. But his Dad jokes, they are BAD 😊😉🤣 He pointed out lots of great facts and it was clear he loves animals. Thank you Earl, you really made our day. We went into the Meerkat Cafe afterwards for tea and cake. Delicious cakes and the young staff taking orders from good. However, the older lady at the coffee station is so rude, she needs some very basic customer service training. She was particularly rude to an older lady, walking away from her as the lady was speaking to her. Apart from this, we would highly recommend a visit to Werribee. Their conservation efforts are so important and your visit helps this very worthy cause.

I came in on a Senior's ticket with family members. We went straight to our ride on the Safari Bus and were glad we arrived very early. By the time we were leaving the car parking extended back over 500m from where we were and the queues for the ride grew quite long, as it was there about five buses, each with three passenger trailers. From the ride we saw the big African plains animals up close (Giraffe, Zebra, Rhino, Ostrich, plus deer, and antelope). The walking was quite strenuous around this large Zoo (you could do 5km to see everything). Some animals were off exhibition on this day (Cheetah, wild dogs). Others were out of sight (Gorillas). My best advice for catering is to bring your own food and drink. We went to the Meerkat Bistro for lunch. The Meerkats were not observed and the sandwiches were not long out of the fridge. The quality was not good and the serving size was small.

This is my favourite Victorian Zoo. What a wonderful place to spend the day with the children . The new elephant enclosure is amazing and it is a must see . It has a long walking trail to get there and the kids love the adventure of trying to spot the elephants . They have a big area for children to play , coffee shops and other amenities in that area. The Safari is always a must and it’s amazing seeing all the animals up so close . This is a wonderful zoo and one we never get bored of going to see .

We had a great day, we went midweek and it was not crowded. Friendly staff members, had a great time driving through where the giraffes and rhinos are located, that was probably the best part of the day. New elephant space will look amazing once completed.

Went with 78 yo lady who I was caring for. Long wait for curtesy bus to see elephants and then back again 40 mins or so. When bus finally arrived we couldn’t get on as too many people waiting. No system & parents with young children got on bus first even though other elderly and disabled were there first. Nowhere to sit in shade while waiting & it was hot and dusty. I asked very reasonably when next bus would be as we had already been waiting a long time. Was yelled at by staff member who was clearly overworked. 14 hour shift she said. Kept calling me mate in an agro voice. Said the buses were a curtesy & didn’t have to do at all. I said that wouldn’t be fair to elderly & disabled when we had paid good money which only made her madder. My elderly client was getting scared. Another staff member came over & said she would take over. She was calm & apologised for staff member & said ‘she took it a bit personally’. Took my email to offer us 2 free passes but I never received. This was two weeks ago now. Finally we got back to where we could catch another bus to see rest of zoo but buses had finished for the day . Was 3.20 pm. We arrived at 12.30, paid $97. Walked some of the way to other part of zoo and saw 2 gorillas & some wild dogs. That part was a lovely shaded walk. To be fair it was school holidays and the stressed out staff member said they had 80,000 people coming through today. But really? Why was this not prepared for? That’s a lot of money coming in on one single day so why not extra staff and buses? Lots of cafes which was good so we could have icy poles to deal with long wait in heat and no shade or seating anywhere near bus stop. Overall a disappointing experience especially for my elderly client who had seen the elephants on the news & wanted to go. At least she got to see them. In the distance. We left feeling very hot, dusty & exhausted. On a positive I’m glad the animals have a big space to roam.

The Werribee Free Range Zoo should not be missed! The safari bus tour is first class. 40 minutes of fun facts via narration throughout the drive on the open range. We saw hundreds of animals! The elephant trail is truly remarkable and a must do! Everything was clean and spacious! Thank you for a wonderful experience! The admission fee is fair and if you want to stay economical then take snacks and drinks! We ate at the bistro and the food was really delicious! Great coffee!

Lovely outing for the whole family at Werribee zoo. We started off with the safari experience and then walked through the various trails and enclosures. A wonderful experience, especially for those with small children!

My wife and I were here last Wednesday to see the new Elephant Trail, that had opened to the public 2 days ago. There are 9 elephants, with 6 adults and 3 baby elephants in the new 21-hectare habitat that has 2 ponds for the elephants to enjoy. It is a much better habitat for these elephants that were moved from Melbourne Zoo recently.
