The West MacDonnell, Ranges full-day tour is an excellent opportunity to explore the panoramic landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges. View spectacular outback scenery and take photos as we travel along through magnificent Outback Country, stopping at the many historical locations. Have time to enjoy the region's natural beauty. Travel in the desert sun, visit gorges and waterfalls, spot local wildlife, and learn from your expert guide. Tour attractions include Anzac Hill, Honeymoon Gap (Temple Bar Gap), Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek Big Hole, Ormiston Gorge, Mount Sonder Lookout, Glen Helen, Ochre Pits and return to your hotel. While you do your picnic walk or swimming at Ormiston Gorge, we do bush cooking, including Kangaroo and Lamb, and your picnic lunch is ready for you once you arrive.

Anzac Hill

Our first visit of the day is at Anzac Hill, where you will be able to take in panoramic views over the town of Alice Springs and the surrounding MacDonnell ranges. You may be able to capture one photo to cover the entire town. Anzac Hill is a memorial dedicated to those who served in Australia’s defense forces during all international wars. The total driving time from your hotel to Anzac Hill 15 minutes.

Temple Bar Gap/ Honeymoon Gap is a small gap south of Larapinta Drive opposite Simpsons Gap, 14km west of Alice Springs. The gap is of great significance to the Arrernte people, the traditional owners of the land. Temple Bar Gap fell out of favor following the site becoming the honeymoon location for Robert (Bob) and Victoria (Vicky) Darken who married at the Alice Springs Methodist Church on 25 June 1942. Bob Darken was given a week's leave from the army and the couple planned to camp for a week at the gap and borrowed a car and a tent. The couple had repeated issues with the car and it rained for most of the week so, friends decided to visit them regularly; they said they were "going to see the honeymooners" or "going to honeymoon gap". It was not until 1981 that the name of the pass was officially changed to Honeymoon Gap and, in 2004, the NT Place Names Committee agreed that, the name of the gap should remain Temple Bar Gap. The best day tour in Australia ever! It truly was a wonderful experience. My family enjoyed every moment, especially the amazing Alice Springs ranges and surroundings, which I had never visited before. Our tour guide, Mahesh, was exceptional—brilliant in his explanations and always joyful. We learned that he is a well-educated gentleman with many talents. He even prepared our lunch and served it in the best possible way, and the food was absolutely delicious. Probably the best tour in Alice Springs!

If staying in Alice Springs seeing the West MacDonnell Ranges is a wonderful way trip and allows you to see the outback in a special way. Mahesh is a lovely tour guide, knowledgeable, and made us a very delicious lunch. Just as a heads up, the tour van is poorly ventilated and is extremely hot. It seemed like Mahesh had not run the tour in warmer months yet and miscalculated how much water would be needed to sustain a hot day like we had. I provided this feedback to him so presumably this will not be an issue going forward. Definitely bring your own cold water. The two swimming holes we stopped at were beautiful and helped cool down. Overall a fun tour and fun way to see the Outback when in Alice.

Fantastic day trip with Mahesh! My girlfriend and I went for a full day exploring the McDonnell Ranges, our group was small and it helped with the tour being quite flexible. Locations were stunning, and managed to impress us even though we had just come back from a multi-day tour around Uluru. Thank you Mahesh!!! PS do not eat too much before the tour, you are sure to eat well during the tour anyway!!!

After our original tour was cancelled (or to be precise we were kicked off our tour with a bigger company so they could give our spots to the high paying Ghan passengers) (I know this because we followed them around most of the day) I stumbled across this tour - and so glad I did. From the first email I wrote, to being returned to our accommodation Mahesh was the perfect host. His knowledge of the local area and his humour made for a very enjoyable day. We had a bonus being the only people on this tour on our chosen day. The itinerary was perfect with a couple of extras added. Not once were we rushed and had plenty of time at each stop. Morning tea and Lunch were delicious, and Mahesh even cooked up some Sri Lankan dishes to sample. I can guarantee you won't go hungry or thirsty. My recommendation is go with the smaller tour and Mahesh is your man. You won't be disappointed. We enjoyed his company so much we organised for him to transfer us to the airport the following day. (He even took a quick stop on the way as we wanted a photo in front of the iconic Welcome to Alice Springs sign). Thank you Mahesh our day spent with you was definitely a highlight of our holiday.

What a great tour! Marshmallow was a fun and knowledgeable guide. The sights were incredible and there was plenty of time to explore at all of our stops. A highlight was the delicious lunch cooked by our guide. Be sure to try the kangaroo. Highly recommend.
