Wētā Workshop has been making cool stuff for film and TV since 1987. Our crew has brought to life beloved characters and epic special effects for iconic blockbusters like The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Avatar and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Step into Wētā Workshop Experiences and explore a world of creativity, physical effects and movie magic on a guided tour through our creative home base.
You'll learn about the making of props, creatures and costumes created for your favourite films. Get hands-on with unique pieces from our many departments, catch our artists at work and discover how we’ve grown into the award-winning workshop you see today.

5.00We had such a wonderful time. It was so interesting to learn about the behind the scenes and processes, and see some of the props and prosthetics made for some of our favourite films. Our guide was really lovely and was especially amazing with our baby who squealed (happily, she’s a fan) throughout. Definitely a must do when in Wellington.

3.00Visit was ok, a little of trivial benign info and some dude rumbling about recycling and best place to go through trash. Auckland tour visit was far more interesting.

5.00knowledgeable tour and learnt a lot! Wete made a lot more of the movies than we thought. They shall make a coffee table book of each of the movies they made and the story behind it! would be lovely to read it all!
