  We were very impressed with this whale watching tour and we had a great time! The boat was well equipped, spacious and not crammed full with people. We appreciated that the company make sure that there is a cap on the bookings they take for each trip. We saw other boats that were overflowing with people and did not necessarily seem safe. Our tour took safety very seriously and we were encouraged to wear our life jackets. We were served with a tasty breakfast, drinks and snacks later on. The crew were amazing in every way-spotting wildlife, serving everyone, making sure that everyone knew about the species seen and something of their biology and also helping people with moving around the boat safely. The captain seemed to be very respectful of the marine creatures and was noticeably annoyed when other boats showed indifference to the animals, one even speeding over a manta ray we were watching without apparently noticing its presence. We would highly recommend this tour company.

  We had a wonderful morning with the Whale Watching Club. Not only were we lucky enough to see both dolphins and whales, but the crew's kindness was truly exceptional. We were traveling with our three young children who were very tired because of the early start. The staff went above and beyond by setting up mattresses on the floor so the kids could sleep comfortably while we continued the tour. It made such a difference for us as parents! The boat felt safe, the staff were professional and respectful of the animals, and the hospitality was 10/10. Highly recommend!

• Nice crew but unlucky trip with no whales

  The crew were nice and friendly. As they say there is a 50/50 chance that you can see a whale, they searched around the ocean for 5 hours and there was none. The sea was also choppy and we couldn't have a swim time due to the unsafe conditions of the sea. However, the staff did their best to make us feel welcome. We had some great videos of dolphins around the boat. The 6 am start time is a bit of a challenge but it is manageable. Definitely do not skip the sea sickness tablets if you join this tour. They give you at the beginning and due to rough sea conditions, it was so worth it. All in all, if you have 6 hours to kill in the sea, it's a tour that you can take but due to our bad luck, it felt a bit disappointing at the end of the tour. So manage your expectations accordingly.

  We had a very successful time on the water. This was my 3rd whale watching trip from Mirissa but this was my first time with this operator. Our boat was technically full but I really appreciated the low head count on board - it made everything very easy to see for everyone and was a big contrast to the other operators’ boats on the water. We saw lots of dolphins and also blue whales. Many operators say they are respectful of the animals but really this is lip service and are still extremely intrusive. WWC are genuinely respectful which was good to see. They are the first boat out on the water which is an advantage so take note of their meeting times. Food and water on board was plentiful. The only “issue” was we stayed out too long. The trip is billed as 4-5hrs. We were out for 6.5hrs. Just as we were getting close to the harbor we spotted another pair of whales and the captain followed them and headed out to sea again. This greatly extended the trip. In the end all of the passengers agreed we’d seen more than enough and persuaded the captain to return to port. It’s a very early start and based on the published itinerary we’d made plans for the afternoon which we had to get back for. This made the captain’s timekeeping a frustrating niggle on an otherwise perfect trip.

  A great morning out! The boat is expertly handled and the crew are really friendly and helpful. We saw loads of dolphins, Spinners and Bottlenose..no whales, but that's always up to chance.. A great experience though.

  We had a really pleasant morning out on the ocean. Saw lots of dolphins and one whale right next to the boat. We were very happy that the captain decided not to stay to watch the whale once all the other boats surrounded it, but instead chose to leave. The food was good too =).

• Amazing experience for the family on a private boat tour

  As a group with 3 children and the youngest being 2 we were hesitant about being on a busy crowded boat tour, so we were pleased to see we could book a private Speedboat boat tour for our group with WWC. Communication over whatsapp was smooth and we chose our date when we arrived in Sri Lanka, although the morning slots were very popular so best to book in advance. We were greeted by the captain and 1 other member of the boat, the Speedboat was lovely and spacious for the group. While no guaranteed to see animals of course, we were hoping to have some luck and indeed we did! We literally saw about 100 dolphins, swimming all around us and doing jumps and twirls, it was amazing, topped off right at the end by a pod of about 10 pilot whales, simply stunning experience.

  The service and kindness of the employees was necessary. We were even able to do an extra hour to see whales. They took care to give us enough food and to offer us seasickness medicines

  A lovely morning out on the sea with our two young children (1.5 and 5 years old). Due to our youngests age we were struggling to find a tour but WWC allowed us to book a private tour which I highly recommend! No whales unfortunately but we saw loads of dolphins and some turtles. Just luck of the draw with the whales unfortunately. They were very respectful of the animals and changed location when it got busy.

  What can I say, a truly amazing experience from WWC, the trip was amazing and they did an incredible job of finding whales, dolphins and flying fish without causing and impact to the animals.
