Shelter for bears that are being cared for. Beautiful location. Small scale. You saw it in half an hour. All bears have a nice spacious enclosure. Impressive stories.

Thanks to Eddie for planning our 3 days in Sandakan. Contact Eddie on 60 11 7117 1178 or borneowildnature@gmail.com Eddie is very knowledgeable, a great driver and we really enjoyed the 3 days we spent travelling around with Eddie throughout Sandakan on his recommendations. He planned the 3 days using local smaller operators where he could. We visited all of the major attractions. A night river cruise with dinner to see fireflys, local wildlife like crocodiles, monkeys in the wild and the sunset. The next day we visited the Sepilok Orangutans, Sun bears, Kinabatangan river for a day river cruise to see many monkeys, Macaques long and short tailed and Proboscis just to name a few. On our last day we went to the Proboscis monkey sanctuary. We had a great time seeing the these very strange but funny monkeys, Seeing their family dynamics of the proboscis monkey and we even lucky enough to see 3 Hornbill birds. We were then taken to the Rainforest discovery centre and later to the War memorial Park. All well worth visiting. Eddie is a safe driver and I would highly recommend him organising and showing you around Sandakan. He is very knowledgeable and an experienced person offering services at reasonable rates. Thank you Eddie, we wouldn't have enjoyed ourselves so much if it wasn't for your local expertise and friendship!

Too bad it's necessary, but nice shelter for these bears. Special how to tell the bears apart, each has his (or her) own drawing and characteristics. In conversation with the founder it appears how much he wants the best for this small bear species. Good thing they have their own place like this.

Viator tours was one hour late, and didn’t answer our calls or texts. From pickup until we was back at the hotel took two and a half hours. We paid 347 dollars for 4 persons. From Sandakan you can take a taxi, pay for the entrance and then it will cost you 32 dollars for 4 persons. It is rude to charge THAT much for a tour. My advice: go by taxi, it’s very simple and you can stay at the park for more than an hour.

I came here again recently after the slow reopening post-Covid and was pleased to see that both sanctuaries' sterling work rehabilitating the animals was continuing apace. The bears at the Conservation Centre appeared to be thriving while the orphaned orang utans at Sepilok were the epitome of 'well cared for'. It is depressing that the number of orphaned apes appeared to have increased since my previous visit but their robust physical health gave glimpses of a potentially brighter future. This Tour is highly worthwhile as it combines both adjacent centres and affords one an insight into each one's excellent work.

Particularly wanted to see the sun bears while we were touring Borneo and as it is next to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre it made sense to do them together. Entrance fee was quite expensive for what you get and like most attractions, using any sort of camera attracts an extra cost. A new walkway takes you to one of two viewing platforms and that's about it! We arrived at feeding time so managed to take some decent photos. The visit was over in an hour.

The love that goes into looking after these endangered species is all to apparent. There are three areas in the sun bear sanctuary, they are quite difficult to see when in the bush but well worth the wait. I got a lovely picture of a sun bear on a log eventually. The Orangutan are simply wonderful, at the nursery you get to see quite a few, at the feeding tables it can depend on when you go in the morning we saw many more than at the afternoon sections.

Had good viewings of both the orang Utans and the bears and learnt about the centres from the videos. It was quite busy when I went which was early October on a Sunday - the visitors were primarily I think Malaysian. Viewing might be more difficult in peak tourist season.
