Te Anau Downs

5.00I booked a trip with Luxe Tours who are a local Te Anau company, to drive me from Te Anau up to Milford Sound for a cruise, then back to Te Anau. A lovely new Mercedes van arrived promptly at 9 to pick me up at my motel, before making one more stop to pick some other passengers up before we were on our way. Thoughtfully there was a bottle of water for each of us on the van and the seats were very comfortable. I had booked the tour as there were warnings on social media about not trying to drive to Milford Sound yourself. The day I went it was very sunny and reasonably warm for June, and actually in these conditions the drive would have been fine. But having someone driving was also less tiring for me. Our driver / guide Murray was a delight, as well as a fountain of knowledge about the area, its history, wildlife and geography. We made several stops on the way at various view points, and also stopped for a hot drink and muffin at one of the most spectacular view points. We were lucky enough to see several local birds including Weka, Kea and a Southern Robin. I was a bit surprised by the absence of seabirds or waders at Milford Sound itself. But the stunning scenery more than made up for this. We went for the cruise on the Sound on one of the older boats, but I thought it was charming. And there were tables reserved on the boat for people on the two Luxe tour buses (the other bus had come from Queenstown). You can preorder lunch with Luxe or leave it until you are on the boat to buy drinks and food from the counter on board. I hadn’t booked lunch and as the water got a bit choppy when we reached the sea from the Sound, I was quite glad as the water got a bit choppy. I had a great day out. As a solo traveller it is sometimes nice to spend it in the company of other people and today was one of those days. I could not have asked for a better tour today.

5.00We had an absolutely fabulous day starting with Nicky our host from Luxe Tours. Nicky made us feel so welcome with her friendly nature. Very knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to enjoy all the stops and photo opportunities. The scenery was spectacular and the crystal blue skies and cold weather made our day perfect. The Milford haven cruise was stunning. Spending the day with Luxe Tours was Perfect. The vehicle was so luxurious and comfortable which made it even more enjoyable. Thank you to Nicky and Luxe Tours. Highly recommend!

5.00Absolutely perfect. Amazing scenery, spectacular views and the weather was perfectly cold with blue skies. Nicky our guide from Luxe Tours was absolutely fabulous. The vehicle was luxurious and comfortable and Nicky made us feel so welcome. Fabulous day. Highly recommend going with Luxe Tours

5.00The pick-up and return service directly from/to our accommodation in Te Anau was greatly appreciated. The Mercedes mini-bus vehicle was extremely comfortable and Murray was an excellent driver and guide. Our small group tour was thoroughly enjoyable. It was unhurried, yet filled with points of interest. The superb weather added to our enjoyment of the region. The boat trip was even better than we could have imagined and Adam's commentary was enthralling. This tour is total value for money!
Fabulous Tour to Milford Sound with LUXE Tours

5.00The perfect way to experience Milford Sound was with Luxe Tours from Te Anau. A small group with the most luxurious Mercedes Sprinter Van for transport and a fabulous driver/guide who took care of the driving/tasks throughout the day and gave us insights and commentary. He had all the good spots for sightseeing taken care of so we could sit back & relax. It was so much more pleasurable than driving this stretch of road ourselves as the guide (Ian) timed the morning to coincide with our cruise departure perfectly. With plenty of leg room, comforts & special treats thought of throughout the day made this experience most enjoyable. We had a fabulous group accompany our day trip which makes all the difference. The cruise on the Milford Marriner went by so quickly and the journey back to Te Anau very pleasant. Luxe Tours have taken care of the little details that makes travelling with them pure joy. I can highly recommend Luxe Tours for your Milford tour.
Milford Sound with Luxe Tours is the best way to travel.

5.00We had an amazing day on our Luxe Tours Milford Sound Tour. Murray was fantastic and we felt so safe with him driving. The bus was very comfortable and we had plenty of opportunities to hop off and see some of the beautiful scenery. Murray had lots of local knowledge to share which we found enjoyable and would have missed out on if we had driven ourselves. The trip into Milford Sound with Luxe Tours was the best way to travel.

5.00Had some doubts about self driving into Milford sound during the start of winter and so we booked a tour with Luxe Tours instead.Glad we did! Couldn’t fault this company. Our guide Murray was tremendous. Very warm and personable and had a wealth of knowledge and experience. Also an excellent and very safe driver. Even had we driven ourselves and stopped at the very same spots, I’m sure we would have missed a great deal. Very comfortable van, regular stops and excellent morning tea. Umbrellas and water bottles on hand .It was a very wet day and so the cruise on Milford Sound was not at its best with most seeking shelter inside the boat and hence more limited space. Would ordinarily be much more space with people using the outside decks. Having said that don’t be put off by the rain. The waterfalls and cascades had fired up overnight and it was quite surreal to see the volume of water coming down literally hundreds of cascades or waterfalls. No doubt every visit will be very different but seeing the area today displayed the sheer power of nature in a most remarkable fashion. They are obviously a fabulous company Mike Melb Australia

5.00We took the Luxe Tour of Milford Sound recently and it was nothing but amazing! Our guide, Murray, was a wealth of knowledgeable and experience. With tour involving several sightseeing stops along to way to Milford, Murray pointed many and varied poignant pieces of local information. This made for a full and complete tour. The tour of Milford was easily one of the best experiences I’ve had the pleasure of partaking. With the weather being clear, it was easy to see the pure beauty of the Sound. Thank you Luxe Tours! We will be back!

5.00My wife and I did this trip from Te Anau in February with Luxe Tours. Wow, what a day. It was a simply wonderful day from start to finish, with added value provided by Toby, our guide, who was excellent. Toby was knowledgeable and provided us with an informative commentary about every stop, walk and aspect of the day. The Milford Sound cruise was so very memorable with a lovely lunch on board and perfect weather as well as the amazing scenery.There are several providers for the Milford Sound trip, but I doubt you will find a better one than Luxe Tours. Very highly recommended.

5.00What a wonderful tour everything was perfect pick to drop off - Ian was friendly and very informative - coach was one of the most comfortable we’ve traveled in - multiple stops break up what is a long day - Milford Soumd itself didn’t disappoint and the sun even shone.
