• Solo female traveler wanting a beginner surf lesson

  Jairo was an incredible instructor. I was a solo traveler to Montezuma, and I booked the option for a public lesson and I happened to be the only person registered, so I got a one on one lesson that was incredible! He was incredibly attentive. As a beginner, surfing is difficult, and I felt that he knew how to push me in a way that was kind and also allowed me to progress more than I thought was possible in one lesson. I felt safe and comfortable taking risks and I learned so much. If you ever go to Montezuma, I absolutely recommend this company as well as the instructor Jairo - he and everyone have so much experience and knowledge to share, and are incredible teachers!

  Our surf lesson with Felipo was awesome!! The price was fair for the experience we had! This was my second time getting a surf lesson and compared to my first one, this one takes the cake. Felipo was a great surf instructor and provided good tips so that my wife and I could go surfing on our own the next day. They also provided fresh fruit halfway through the lesson. I would absolutely recommend this surf school to anybody staying in Montezuma. The owner, Nego, was also very flexible with us, allowing us to go get cash after our lesson and meet him for the payment afterwards.

  Excellent service in all possible aspects. Nego is super friendly, knows a lot about surfing, has a lot of patience to teach from scratch. It makes corrections to what you need to improve each time. With only three lessons I learned enough to surf as a beginner on my own. I hope to come back to advance further!

  It was my first surf lesson and much fun! We walked 30 mins to Playa Grande. We took a fruit break in between. Recommended!

  Super good experience! We took the class with my girlfriend and enjoyed every second. First time surfing for both of us and the instructors of By The Wave made it pleasent and encouraging. The instructors were both relaxed and highly professional. They gave important personalized tips on how to improve one's surfing and step up the game. Thanks to By The Wave for an inspiring start on the journey into this sport.

  We had the best experience! The owner responded quickly on WhatsApp and coordinated everything seamlessly. Our instructor, Jairo, was extremely experienced and patient with us as beginners.   My very first surf lesson was absolutely top. After 20 minutes of hiking we reached the beautiful Playa Grande. After theoretical instruction and dry exercises in the sand, we went into the water. My surf instructor Nego managed to get me to the beach as a bloody beginner twice in a standing position. An unforgettable experience!

  We had our first ever surf lesson with Nego and it was great. He was very patient and extremely helpful, which was needed since we are in our 40s and didn’t know what to expect. I would highly recommend the class, Nego, and learning to surf there.

  Jairo and Nego took great care of us, they didn’t just teach us how to ride waves but how to surf. We loved it so much we did 5 lessons and improved a lot during the time. Montezuma is an excellent place to learn how to surf because the waves are more beginner friendly and less crowded. They generously provided fruits and coconuts and overall it was a great experience! 10/10
