• Scottish Routes 4 day trip to Mull food and whiskey tasting

  We feel really privileged to have been on this trip as it was more like a private tour with just four of us. Stefan, our driver and tour guide, was knowledgeable and had incredible eye sight when it came to spotting wild life. The trip from Edinburgh to Oban had interesting planned stops, including our first smoked salmon, cheese and whisky tasting. We stayed for one night at Oban Bay Hotel. The food and service at this hotel was exemplary and the rooms comfortable. Stefan had pointed out places in Oban to walk to and we also visited the Oban distillery. The following morning we took the boat to Mull. We had a few outside stops but the weather wasnt particularly kind to us. We headed for Toblemory for our next tasting. The planning for this day of trip could have been better as there seemed to be alot of hanging around without pupose. The whiskey tasting however, was excellent. Then we went to our hotel which was the same hotel chain as the one in Oban so we had high expectations but sadly were disappointed. The place is a little tired and the restaurant manager extremely abrupt bordering on rude. The spa facilities however are good. The next day we went to Staffa and Fingals Cave which was brilliant as we saw puffins, shags and terns. On our return we were taken to the Ninth Wave for a 5 course tasting meal. We have eaten all over the world but this has to be one of the best meals we have ever had. The chef came out at the beginning of each course and talked about its inspiration and produce. Absolutely amazing. The next day we started our journey back to Edinburgh by a different route and had a final tasting at an interesting small distillery. The scenery was spectacular. Altogether a fantastic trip not to be missed!
