• Great city with amazing guide

  Josh was our guide and he did a terrific job. We visited with our 3 kids (elementary and middle school ages) and my parents. Josh spoke excellent English and was very engaging and informative. He listened to our requests and was very accommodating. We were able to do everything we wanted in our day in Hakodate. We all learned so much, ate amazing local food, and had a very fun time. If we ever get a chance to visit Hakodate again, I would absolutely like Josh to be our guide again. This tour was great!

  Kaz, our guide was awesome. He was so informative and made sure we got to see everything. He was also very patient with our picture taking. This is a fantastic tour to get a taste of the island. I would recommend it and Kaz to anyone. Thankyou for an unforgettable day.

  We had a very good day exploring Hakodate with Josh! It was interesting to use the public transportation, and we were glad we had him to show us what to do. There was a fair amount of walking, and it was a very warm day, but we managed just fine. Josh did a great job!

  Wonderful experience with Maria! We explored churches, tried melon bread, learned the history of Hakodate, & experienced the true beauty of the area. My son & daughter said was thier favorite tour. Highly recommend!

  We had an amazing time with Hiro!! Really appreciated his insight to Hakodate and culture. We did the Hakodate Tower and Fort, Ropeway, Morning Market and the Red Warehouse District. We topped it off with some sushi at the end. Truly an amazing guide and person who we enjoyed spending time with. We would definitely recommend Hiro and a personalized tour of Hakodate. Thank You Hiro for a wonderful time!!!

  Weather on Hokkaido in early April is still unpredictable, but we had glorious sunshine and mild temperatures on our recent visit to Hakodate. Mariko (“Maria”) was a fun and knowledgeable guide and went the extra mile to search out a very good vegetarian restaurant for our lunch. We asked to visit the Botanical Garden to see Japanese macaques, or “snow monkeys,” basking in the hot springs and we weren’t disappointed. The views from Mt Hakodate, reached by “ropeway,” were extraordinary, with white mountain peaks in the distance and the city sprawled out below. We enjoyed our visit to Hakodate, and Maria made it a memorable one.

  My family, 7 adults, enjoyed a great day with our tour guide Josh. He was prompt, professional, informative and fun. We were able to see all the major sites in Hakodate. We sampled the food at the market and eat at another great sushi restaurant. We ended the day with some time for shopping. Overall, a fantastic day and I highly recommend this tour.

  Tour: Hakodate Food and Exploration Tour with Private Guide Date: April 3, 2025 Booking Ref: 1228063125 We recently took this tour, and while our guide did his best to provide a good experience, we found the tour description on Viator to be lacking in accuracy. 1. The tour involved extensive walking and city bus travel, which was not clearly stated in the description. This should be highlighted for travelers to set accurate expectations. 2. When booking from the United States, it appeared that lunch was included, but upon arrival in Japan, we learned it was not. This caused some confusion and should be clarified in the listing. 3. For the price point, we expected a more curated experience with a clearer focus on food exploration. We hope Viator updates the tour description to ensure future travelers can make an informed decision.
