We had an awesome time with Alessandro. He was very fun and passionate about gelato. Everything was well organized and timed well. It does take the whole 3 hours, unless you talk to much, like us and have questions and enjoy his company, then it might take a little bit longer. We made 2 gelatos and 2 sorbets, learned the history, how to spot fake gelatos and the difference between ice cream and gelatos. The gelatos we made were delicious and we ate as much as we could. You can take your work home and he has to-go containers to keep it cool. If you are a gelato lover, you will love this. This was a highlight of my trip.

I echo what everyone else has said - Alessandro is wonderfully hospitable, his communication is clear and responsive, and his workshop is not to be missed! I will add three specifics in case it helps anyone: 1) For kids (or adults) with little patience for listening to pre-activity lectures: The workshop structure is genius! We got almost right to work picking our flavors - who can argue with that?! He saved the gelato history presentation for later while the gelato machines were working. It was reasonably brief and our kid alternated between laying on the couch and stealing nibbles of fruit. 2) For clumsy or lazy folks: No judgment! Alessandro happily offered to help with the peach when I mentioned I'm terrible and slow with knives. 3) The sorbetto you make in this workshop will ruin you for life (in a good way). If you're used to the sugary ice block sold as "sorbet" in many North American spots, get ready to have your life changed. I had no idea sorbetto was meant to be filled with fresh fruit, and also so light yet creamy without dairy. The bad news is, we were so enamored with the peach sorbetto we made, even none of the nearby cremeria versions measured up to our freshly made goodness. Grazie tante Alessandro!

If you want an authentic, delicious and entertaining gelato experience, then book it now with Alesandro! His home is on the outskirts of Bologna, but he gave excellent directions and it was so worth it. Grazie mille!

A magnificent experience! Alessandro is super nice, attentive, and tells you all the tricks to make top-notch homemade ice cream! From the most basic to the most technical to understand the balances and the reason for each ingredient or texture. He speaks English and is for tourists or Italians, but it is not like the basic courses in Bologna; you learn a lot! Additionally, they advised us a lot on visiting the city of Bologna! Definitely worth repeating!

Alessandro had everything ready when we arrived. We made four flavors using precise recipes, and all were delicious. We learned how temperature and freezing affect texture and flavor at the “Gelato Lab”. Alessandro was friendly, organized, informative and wonderful.

Alessandro has designed this workshop beautifully! The 2.5 hours are thoughtfully packed with three different techniques, including making granita, sorbet, and gelato. You get to choose the flavour you want to learn, while also exploring the history and craft behind gelato making. One of my biggest takeaways was realizing just how much science goes into creating a great gelato. Highly recommend this experience if you enjoy well-designed workshops and hands-on learning.

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced something as warm, genuine, and memorable as this gelato class in Bologna. From the moment we walked into his apartment, we were welcomed not as customers, but as friends. He has such a rare gift for teaching — patient, passionate, and quietly attentive to every detail — making sure everyone felt comfortable and involved. You can tell this isn’t just about gelato for him; it’s about sharing a piece of his life, his culture, and his joy. And the gelato… absolutely incredible. Not just the best I’ve ever tasted, but something we created together, guided by his expertise and care. It made the experience feel even more special. What really stayed with me, though, was his kindness. The way he went out of his way to make the experience personal, relaxed, and full of laughter — it felt like spending an afternoon with someone you’ve known for years. If you’re in Bologna, don’t even think twice. This is more than a class — it’s a memory you’ll carry with you long after the last spoonful of gelato is gone.

I had the best time during this workshop! Alessandro is very passionate about gelato and likes to share his knowledge and skills. He was welcoming us in his own home and was very patient but also funny and helpful. I've not only learned to make gelato but also many other things like how to recognise 'old/bad' gelato when buying one. I would definitely recommend doing a workshop with him!

Very nice to do. Allessandro is a friendly and knowledgeable man who enthusiastically talks about the process of making real gelato. The gelato and granita you make under his guidance are delicious!

Alessandro was a wonderful teacher and his enthusiasm for gelato shows! We learned so much about the craft, and he made it a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend the experience for anyone wanting to know more about gelato in the craft of Italian ice cream.
