• Great small group hike with a nice guide

  Our guide, Marica, was extremely helpful and informative. We were pleasantly surprised to be the only 2 guests on our 1:45pm departure from the Glacier Lagoon. Marica ensured we were geared appropriately (providing us with crampons, harnesses and helmets) and were on the road in minutes. ice explorers has a van with kit for borrowing if you need boots or other equipment. We drove in an impressive modified Chevrolet van (anyone who likes lifted vehicles would be quite entertained) to the off trail parking lot. We then hiked 20min to the base of the glacier. Then, we started hiking up the glacier! It was incredible. We got to see moulins (and enter one), see and cross many streams on the surface of the glacier, understand the impacts of ash on reducing melting, and also the sobering impacts of climate change on the receding of the glacier. Perks of ice explorers vs other tour companies: we saw a really large group (more than 10 people) from another company. We had individualized attention, and Marica was thus able to tailor our trip for our speed and fitness. Unlikely that we'd go to iceland again, but would recommend Ice Explorers to anyone!

  Good boots and a camera are a must! It can be windy so a ski cap is best, ball caps blew away. Tour guide was very knowledgeable! Ask for Valentine!

  Highly recommend this glacier hike! The entire experience was incredibly well organized, with a strong focus on safety from start to finish. Before heading onto the ice, our guides thoroughly checked everyone's crampons, helmets, harnesses, and footwear to make sure everything fit properly and we were safe. The small group size, about 9 of us in our group made the tour feel personal and allowed for plenty of interaction with our guide. Gulmero was outstanding, very friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and always made us feel safe and comfortable, checked in frequently as we climbed the glacier. I went with my family, including my 79-year-old dad, and all of us had an incredible time and felt safe. The glacier views were awesome, and being able to explore an ice cave, see the real blue ice made the experience even more memorable. One of the highlights of our trip!

  I just completed an amazing glacier hike in Iceland with Guillermo as our guide, and it was one of the highlights of my entire trip. Walking on the vast, ancient ice was surreal — the crunch under our crampons, the deep blue hues of the glacier, and the stunning views in every direction made it feel like we’d stepped into another world. We explored several beautiful small ice caves and got safely close to some impressive crevasses. The formations were breathtaking, and Guillermo’s explanations about how the glacier moves, forms these features, and changes over time added so much depth to the experience. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the geology and history of the area, answering all our questions with enthusiasm. What really stood out was how seriously Guillermo took our safety. He made sure everyone was properly equipped with crampons, helmets, and harnesses, gave clear instructions, and kept the group together while still allowing time to enjoy the views and take photos. His calm, confident leadership helped even the less experienced hikers in our group feel completely secure. The pace was perfect, the scenery was jaw-dropping, and the whole tour was extremely well organized. Guillermo turned what could have been a simple walk on ice into a memorable, educational, and safe adventure. I can’t recommend this glacier hike enough — book it with Guillermo if you get the chance. He’s an outstanding guide and made our group feel like we were in the best possible hands. 10/10 experience!

  Excellent experience; the tour lasts four and a half hours, with half an hour of driving from the lagoon in an off-road vehicle, about ten minutes of approach, and over three hours on the glacier. Our guide, Valentin, explained the history of the glacier, its characteristics and peculiarities, and the techniques for safe progression. On two occasions, he set up a rope for the descent for a few meters into a shallow crevasse, which was very interesting and adventurous. Valentin is friendly and nice, in addition to being an experienced and reliable guide. Beautiful experience.
