  Thanks Adventure Kokoda, team leader Jesse White, Graham my PNG porter and the trekking team you are special people, The whole experience with my son was professional and unforgettable, The track was VERY hard but I felt supported the entire journey, as I’m approaching 60 years old I was “ not left behind “ and enjoyed the banter with my PNG brothers at the rear.

  Adventure Kokoda is a great company to hike with, they were well organised, and were prompt at answering emails leading up to the hike. Jake Leske, our guide, was well connected and had a great rapport with the local people. He was really supportive, encouraging us all equally regardless of our abilities and walking speed . Jake was well organised with a passion for the war history, sharing and showing us things as we went. The poems and stories he told bought the history to life and created plenty of emotion. The png boys were great, always ready to help with a smile. They made such a difference carrying our main packs. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Adventure Kokoda for the hike with Jake as your guide.

  

  

  

• A life-changing trek

  This trip is not a holiday. It is hard; physically, mentally, spiritually. This was my second Kokoda Trek with Adventure Kokoda (AK), having now completed an eight-day and 10-day trek. Here are my tips. - If you can, take the 10-day option. The trek is the same degree of difficulty, but you have a rest day. This is a chance to explore an area where few people go, or simply relax around camp and get to know your fellow trekkers. If you are lucky, you might even be able to get some of your gear dry. So much of this trek is spent watching your feet and calculating your next steps that the rest day is a chance to absorb the history and the importance of your trip. - Hire a guide/porter. Your money makes a real difference to their families and their communities. Your porter will not only carry some of your gear, they will make sure you follow the safest track, keep slips and trips to a minimum and assist you in getting across swift running creeks and waterfalls. The mud is slippery and never-ending and as you start to slide down a mountain, the feeling of having the brakes applied in the form of your porter holding onto your pack to break your fall is indescribable and worth every dollar. - Train in the bush at every opportunity. Gym work is fine, but a walk up a steep hill in the rain is better. - Take stuff. Keep your own gear to a minimum but fill your suitcase with useful items that can be left in the villages. AK can provide info on what to take. Pencils, exercise books, reading books, first aid supplies. (We approached the local ambulance service for any freshly expired but still useable supplies such as bandages, splints etc.). Tennis balls are a crowd pleaser and easy to carry in your own pack. A stick and a tennis ball equals a fun game with all the kids in the village. The AK team. Tracie Watson (manager) was amazing. Every email, no matter how trivial, was answered promptly, even after hours and on weekends. Nothing seemed too much trouble. The information provided on their website is a great guide to preparing for the trip. Our trek leader Jake Leske had an excellent rapport with the local people and treated everyone; locals, staff and trekkers with respect. He would hike with the various clumps of trekkers as we spread out along the trail, chatting with the front runners and providing words of encouragement to the tail-enders. The PNG team were second to none. Bos Man, Bos Kuk, Trek Dokta, the ‘shovel of authority’ and the many carriers who kept passing us as they ferried food and gear from one camp to the next. Some were quiet and shy, but all were cheerful and helpful. Is it tough? Yes. Is it worth it? 100% yes. It will change your life.

  I recently completed the Adventure Kokoda Trek, and it was one of the most challenging, rewarding, and unforgettable experiences of my life. From start to finish, the guides were incredibly supportive, knowledgeable, and deeply passionate about the history of the Kokoda Track. Their encouragement helped our group push through the steep climbs, muddy trails, and physically demanding days. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking — dense rainforest, rugged mountain ranges, flowing rivers, and traditional villages made every day feel like a true adventure. Walking the actual Kokoda Track while learning about the campaign gave me an entirely new level of respect for the Australian soldiers who fought there under such extreme conditions. A special mention must go to our outstanding Trek Leader, Jake Leske, whose storytelling and historical knowledge brought the track to life each and every day. He shared many memorable stories of the courage, sacrifice, and gallantry displayed by the Australian soldiers who fought so bravely in incredibly harsh and inhospitable conditions to defend our nation. Jake’s passion for the history, combined with his ability to connect the group to the spirit and significance of Kokoda, made the experience deeply moving and even more meaningful. The local porters and village communities were also absolutely amazing, particularly Mondo, the Papuan medic, whose humility, kindness, and quiet encouragement helped guide me through some of my toughest moments on the trek. The warmth, positivity, and hospitality shown by everyone we met added so much to the journey. The trek itself was physically demanding — brutal at times — but the entire team ensured everyone felt safe, supported, motivated, and cared for every step of the way. I would highly recommend Adventure Kokoda to anyone seeking an authentic, well-organised, and life-changing experience. Completing the Kokoda Trail is an achievement that I will never forget.   Adventure Kokoda is well worth it! The booking process was simple and always had fast replies when asking all the lead up questions! On the hike my trek leader was Jake Leske and he was AMAZING! Very obvious he had a good relationship with the locals and so much knowledge about the track and the history, I always felt safe trekking with Jake! Best experience EVER

  This was my second trek across the Kokoda Trail with Adventure Kokoda, and would recommend them to anyone thinking about taking on the challenge. Jake’s knowledge of the Kokoda campaign, the respect he has, for and from the PNG carriers, and with the people living along the trail, is something to be admired. AK’s work behind the scenes supporting the Kokoda Trail Communities, Schools, Medical Centres, and that the carriers all live along the trail, is reason enough alone to choose this company. If you can spare the time choose the 10 day trek.

  I trekked with Adventure Kokoda for ANZAC, as i am interested in military history. I was not disappointed. The Adventure Kokoda trek leaders have a passion for the history of the track, and an intimate knowledge of the stories that go with the stunning scenery and people along it. Our Trek leader Peter Morrison was professional and unflappable in his leadership, and has a great relationship with the people and elders along the track. I could not recommend Adventure Kokoda highly enough.

  Best experience of my life!!! Thank you Jake and the Adventure Kokoda team. As soon as we sighed up we new we had made the right decision. All the information on fitness and what we needed for the trip was spot on. Brutal yet rewarding. Walking in the footsteps of our diggers with PNG locals was sobering and inspiring!!

  Kokoda Track is a great experience. Jake Leske (tour guide) clearly knew his stuff and balanced the need for historic WW2 knowledge, information about the indigenous locals and our personal safety really well. Adventure Kokoda are a professional outfit - you wont beat their attention to detail and local knowledge. Well done team.
