I did the four-day Ausangate trek and enjoyed every second. The team was incredibly friendly, and I'll miss the high-fives after each pass or upon reaching the campsite for the day. However, I must say I was extremely disappointed with our guide's training. He not only seemed to have little knowledge of the trek, but his lack of knowledge was genuinely dangerous. On the last day, one of the women in the group panicked because she lost contact with the others and became short of breath due to the altitude. Our guide was overwhelmed and didn't know what to do, so the other hikers took it upon themselves to calm her down. He only offered oxygen after we asked for it. Other hikers also had problems with altitude sickness and received no advice or medication like coca leaves from our guide. Despite all this, our guide was friendly and tried his best, but I would still expect that when booking with a tour agency, the guides are specifically trained for emergency situations. A big thank you to Francisco, our horseman, and Edgar, our cook.

Gigantic tour around Ausangate with its glaciers. Juan was a very attentive and reliable guide, accompanied by an excellent kitchen team that always prepared delicious and healthy meals under difficult conditions. The tent, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag were in perfect condition. Attention: The extreme altitude and the nighttime cold take a significant toll on the body. It is essential to acclimatize many days in advance!!!!

A truly magical & unique experience in the most beautiful and unforgettable landscape. Day 1 felt like a tough walk given the altitude but we were rewarded with beautiful views of Ausangate, stunning remote landscapes and catching glimpses of local people watching over their alpacas. Our campsite was in the most stunning and remote location. Our team were amazing. The boys are incredibly strong carrying all the food/ camping equipment and were always happy and smiling . The food was plentiful and delicious. Our guide was very helpful, informative and took good care of us ensuring our pace was appropriate. We were delighted to crawl into our sleeping bags after dinner and the hot water bottle was hugely appreciated. Be prepared for cold, the weather can feel brutally cold and changeable. We were woken at 5am with a very welcome coca tea before breakfast. After a 30-40 minute uphill walk we were rewarded with the most stunning views of rainbow mountain and we had the whole place to ourselves. We were blessed with perfect weather and the colours are simply breathtaking of the mountains and red valley. After doing Salkantay, Machu Picchu and the sacred valley we felt absolutely privileged to experience the tranquility and isolation that this trek offers.

Magical experience hiking the Ausangate trek in March of 2026. We had a small group and didn't see any other tourists the whole time which was a very special experience. Every single meal was different and the food was exceptional. Our guide Gilthon was relaxed, helpful and kind. Over the 4 days the landscape changed so much, it truly felt like I was in a special world. One recommendation I would make is that each tent/sleeping bag/mat is labeled with the name of the individual using it for the duration of the trip or for example #1= Tom; #2=Scott, #3=Vanessa etc... I think our stuff was mixed up by day 3. Only that could be improved.

Juan and his team made our Ausangate trek the trip of a lifetime. He catered to our preferences (for solitude and exceptional camping) with great care, and he used his deep experience to ensure smooth travel. Our tent was ready (and beds made!) when we arrived at camp; meals were delicious, with fresh vegetables, interesting flavors, and classy expedition presentation. I have been a mountain guide for 20 years, and I cannot overstate Juan's skill: he moved easily between thoughtful conversation, silly joy, and enjoyable silence--we never felt obligated to stay too long in one vibe. He was caring and helpful without ever condescending. Critically, he offered rich insight into the cultural landscape around us--he taught us some Quechua, introduced us to local alpaca herders and helped us understand their traditions and lifeways. We were able to focus on enjoying the trek, caring for our bodies, taking photos, and learning. I recommend his services (and those of our arriero Jose Luis and cook Denis) without hesitation--worth every cent.

My wife and I had the most incredible time on this trek, chiefly due to the masterful guiding of Cecilio -- a truly heroic guide. A note to the uninitiated: this trip is tough. The altitude is challenging, though the actual distances aren't, but it's the cold that's the real irritant. When camping outside for 4 nights, with understandably poor-quality sleep, the walks are even more challenging. Of course, the views and solitude are unrivalled, making the struggle worthwhile. Although it's tough, the Peru Hike team do everything they can to keep you safe, warm, and happy: from hot-water bottles in your sleeping bag, to coca tea on wakeup, to popcorn at the nightly happy hour. The food is ample and top-notch, and the porter team are efficient and friendly. All in all, it was an amazing experience -- do make sure you know what you're getting into before booking, though. Having visited Machu Picchu, Choquequirao, and Manu National Park, this is the most challenging of them all. Once again, thanks to Peru Hike and, most of all, Cecilio for an unforgettable trip.

The most beautiful trek I did in Peru! Juan was amazing food was incredible! Made some incredible friends. Don’t forget to acclimatise can be dangerous. Would do it all over again and recommend bringing warm clothes was way colder than Salkantay.

Great experience. One of the best hikes I've ever done ❤ We did it with our 10 years old daugther. She managed very well with the altitude and the camping. Great food!!

Great experience with great support. Stunning. Highly recommended. One of the best trekkings ever done. Make sure that you acclimatise in Cusco a few days. Hiking 5 days between 4.300 and 5.200 meters you need to be prepared and acclimatised.
